Tom Allen

Two Negroes Are Lynched By Angry Mob.
Two negroes were lynched in Walton county Tuesday by citizens who sought to avenge the criminal assault of a prominent white woman in that county some time ago. Tom Allen, who was directly charged with the assault, was hanged at Social Circle early Tuesday morning as he was being taken from Atlanta to Monroe for trial. A few hours later a crowd stormed the Walton county jail at Monroe and Joe Watts, a negro who had been acting suspiciously, it is said, was taken out and lynched.
Allen was guarded by troops a few weeks ago when his case was called, but postponed on account of a technicality. The authorities did not ask for troops this time, it is said, and the negroes were lynched.
