Widely Known Law Enforce Men Officer Died Suddenly Monday Had Held Office Seven Years
McDonough, Ga., Nov. 8-- Sheriff H. M. Amis, 62, died suddenly of heart attack at his residence hero Monday morning.
Sheriff of Henry county the last seven years, Mr. Amis was well-known in Georgia law enforcement circles. He was a member of the McDonough Baptist church and a Shriner.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at the McDonough Baptist church. The Rev. Roy Matthews will officiate and burial will follow in the city cemetery.
Mr. Amis is survived by his wife; two sons, W. W. Amis and R. D. Amis, both of McDonough; five daughters, Mrs. Lovi Turner, Miss Lila Amis, Mrs. Charley Mann, Mrs. John Fargarson and Miss Henrietta Amis, all of McDonough.
Well Known Here Sheriff Amis was well and favorably known in Butts county and had many friends in this county and section who regret to know of his sudden death. As a law enforcement officer he frequently attended the annual meetings of the Flint Circuit Bar Association and was regarded as a brave and vigilant officer.
He was also well known in fraternal circles, holding membership in Alexius Commandery, Knights Templar.
Several Butts county friends attended the funeral rite.
