Two Killed, Two Hurt Seriously When Car Overturns on Route 16 Friday Night
When the car in which they were riding went out of control on Route 16 two miles west of Jackson at 10:15 Friday night, Mrs. Velma Ray Teal, 27, of Barnesville, and Sam F. Anderson, 25, of Forsyth, were killed instantly, and other occupants of the car, Miss Faye Smith, 17, of Flovilla and Forsyth, and Lloyd Martin of Forsyth were seriously injured.
After the automobile went out of control it overturned and hurled the occupants some distance along the road's shoulder. The body of Mrs. Teal was found 100 feet from the spot where the car came to a stop. The car was a complete wreck.
Wendell McCoy Jr. of Jackson, who, had been to a movie in Griffin was an eyewitness to the accident and aided with the dead and injured.
The car was proceeding toward Griffin at the time of the accident. Martin was reported as driver the car. The injured were rushed to Spalding Hospital by Jackson ambulances. Late reports showed the condition of Miss Smith and Mr. Martin to be improved.
The two couples, a report said were to be married Friday night. Mrs. Teal was to marry Mr. Anderson and Miss Smith was to wed Mr. Martin.
