W. T. Anderson
W. T. Anderson, Macon Editor, Taken by Death.
W. T. Anderson, 74 years of age, editor of the Macon Telegraph and widely known business and civic leader, died at his home in Macon Friday night. He had been ill for some time and was stricken with pneumonia several days ago.
A native of Haynesville, Ga., he joined the Telegraph as an office boy in 1888. He and a brother, Payton Anderson Sr., bought the Telegraph in 1914 and he served as president of the Macon Telegraph Publishing Company until 1940 when he retired and became chairman of the board.
He served as a member of the state highway board in 1923-25 and was a trustee of the Herty Laboratory in Savannah. He also served as a member of the Bibb county board of education and as trustee of the old sixth district A. &. M. School. He was widely known as a writer and speaker and frequently had spoken to the Kiwanis club in Jackson.
A brother, Eugene Anderson, editorial writer on the Telegraph, and seven sisters survive.
