Eugene Andrews Killed June 15 by Lightning
Eugene Andrews, 50-year-old colored farmer working for A. J. Hearn on the Buttrill farm west of Jackson, was instantly killed about 3 p.m. Thursday. June 15, when he was struck by lightning while plowing in the field. The mule he was plowing was also killed by the bolt.
His son working by his side in aa adjoining row escaped unhurt.
A small cloud formed over the area and there was only one discharge of lightning.
Andrews was recognized as an honest and hard working farmer and bore a good reputation in the community. His crop was described as a good one.
He is survived by his wife and nine children. Funeral services were held Sunday.
