Mr. John O. Andrews
Mr. John O. Andrews dies in Atlanta Home.
The death of Mr. John O. Andrews, aged 83, a former well known citizen of Butts county, occurred Monday at his home in Atlanta. Though he had not been in robust health for some time his condition had not been considered serious until a few hours before his death.
Funeral services were held at Macedonia church Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock, with Rev. J. A. Bonner officiating. A large number of friends and relatives gathered for a final tribute to this worthy citizen and the high esteem in which he was held was attested by the lovely floral offerings. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. C. Jones, W. H. Barnes, W. H. Singley, E. G. Duke, E. R. Harper and W. A. White. Interment was in the churchyard.
Mr. Andrews was born and reared in Butts county, moving some twenty years ago to Atlanta where he has resided since. He came of an old influential family of this section. During the war Mr. Andrews served as a member of the Fourteenth Georgia regiment and took part in many of the important battles in Virginia and was wounded at Gettysburg. He was a member of Camp Barnett U.C.V. of Jackson and took much interest in the affairs of the camp. For a long number of years he served as a clerk of Macedonia Church and during the past few years compiled a history of the church, and readers will recall with interest his articles in The Progress-Argus on the early history of Butts county. During his young manhood he spent several years in Jasper county.
Mr. Andrews had a large circle of friends here who are very sorry to know of his death. He is survived by his wife and two sons, W. H. Andrews, a detective lieutenant on the Atlanta Police department, and O. M. Andrews; five daughters, Mrs. J. Barnes, of Deerum, Mrs. J. W. Harper of Hampton, Mrs. J. H. Gilmore, of Monticello, Mrs. W. T. Tucker and Miss. Mamie Andrews both of Atlanta.
