Mr. Walter Yates Andrews

W. Y. Andrews Died On Thursday
Mr. W. Y. Andrews, prominent citizen of Barnesville, died Thursday afternoon, July 5th, at the Griffin-Spalding County Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. Mr. Andrews resided at 516 Forsyth Street.
A native of Jackson, Mr. Andrews was a member of a widely known Butts County family. He was the son of the late Mr. Montezuma Andrews and Mrs. Nannie Preston Andrews. He had made his home in Barnesville for a long number of years and until his fairly recent retirement was manager of the Lamar Electric Membership Corporation. Mr. Andrews was serving as a councilman of the City of Barnesville at the time of his death. He played an instrumental role in the transfer of Gordon College to the University of Georgia System.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at three o'clock from the First United Methodist Church in Barnesville with the Rev. Bob Bone officiating. Interment was in the Forsyth Cemetery with Hubbard Funeral Home of Barnesville in charge of arrangements. The body was carried to the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Andrews is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katy Andrews; two daughters, Mrs. W. L. Norris of Warner Robins and Miss Kathy Andrews of Barnesville; a son, Walter Yates Andrews Jr. of Macon; a sister, Mrs. Boyce Loyd of Covington; three brothers, Nelson Andrews of Center Hill, Florida, J. Lee Andrews of New Port Richey, Florida, and James Andrews of, Lyons; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephew.
