Rev. Gene Askew's Father Killed In Train Wreck
Butts county friends of the family regret to hear of the death of Newton G. Askew, of Macon, in a train accident near Hazlehurst on Saturday.
Mr. Askew was the father of the Rev. C. Eugene Askew of Blooming Grove, N. Y., former pastor of the Jenkinsburg Methodist charge.
Mr. Askew, a railway engineer, was born in Stockbridge but had lived in Macon for 44 years.
Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Carolyn Walden of Macon; two son, the Rev. C. Eugene Askew of Blooming Grove, N. Y. and James Edward Askew of Boston; three brothers, James Hardy Askew of Atlanta and Roy Askew and Thurman Askew, both of Stockbridge; a sister, Mrs. L. L. Burch of Hapeville, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from Hart's Mortuary in Macon with Dr. Leonard Cochran officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery near Stockbridge.
Mrs. Lewis Dodson, Mrs. H. L. Bankston, Mrs. R. C. Riley, Mrs. E. T. Bell, Mrs. Elizabeth Chambers and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dodson of Butts county attended the funeral services.
