Sara Marcelle Atha
Conyers woman killed in wreck Friday
A Conyers woman died Friday afternoon following a two-car, head-on collision on Halls Bridge Road. Sara Marcelle Atha, 57, of 1370 Eastview Road, Conyers, was dead on arrival at Sylvan Grove Hospital, according to State Patrol officer Kenneth Peterman. Her husband, William Atha, 63, a passenger in the 1981 Cadillac she was driving, sustained serious injuries and was taken by the Life Flight helicopter to Emory University Hospital.
Three children in a 1985 Toyota Corolla driven by their mother, Teresa Head, 25, of 1070 S. Main St., Conyers, were critically injured. Ricadous Head, 6, and Latrell Head, 5, were taken by Life Flight to Henrietta, Egleston Hospital for Children, while Latrese Head, 3, was flown to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, according to Sheriff Billy Leverette.
Their mother was hospitalized, also with serious injuries, at Georgia Baptist Hospital.
The collision occurred about 3:45. Peterman said the Atha vehicle was headed north on Halls Bridge and may have been straddling, the centerline to avoid mud that had washed into the road at the intersection of Airstrip Road. Head was traveling south on Halls Bridge.
