Lonnie Atkinson Buried Sunday At County Line
Mr. Lonnie Atkinson, 84, of East McIntosh Road, Griffin, died Friday afternoon at the Griffin-Spalding County Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday, November 5th. He had suffered a stroke and remained in grave condition until he succumbed about four o'clock Friday afternoon.
Mr. Atkinson, a farmer, was a native of Butts County and had lived in Spalding County for 20 years. He was the son of the late Lewis M. Atkinson and the late Mrs. Lucy Kimbell Atkinson. The Kimbell Baptist Association was named in honor of his grandfather, the late Rev. James Kimbell. Mr. Atkinson was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church and was a Mason.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at three o'clock from the DeVotie Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer G. Fowler and the Rev. Brady B. Blalock officiating. Interment was in the County Line Baptist Church cemetery near Jenkinsburg.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Alice Thaxton Atkinson; four daughters, Mrs. Jack Ogelvie, Mrs. James B. Head, Mrs. Ray P. Horton, all of Griffin; and Mrs. W. S. Flint of Americus; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
