Mr. Lewis Atkinson Summoned by Death
Following a long illness, Mr. Lewis M. Atkinson, 80 years of age, one of Butts county's leading citizens, passed away Wednesday night at 10 o'clock, His death came as a shock to a wide circle of friends over the county.
Mr. Atkinson, a man of sterling character, was a member of an old and prominent family of the county. He was a bother of the late Hon. Alex Atkinson, former representative and senator from this district. He was a member of the Baptist church and was admired for his integrity and upright dealings.
Mr. Atkinson is survived by two sons, Messrs. L. A. and J. T. Atkinson; two daughters, Mrs. Alma Smith and Mrs. Susie Davis. His wife, who was a Miss Kimbell, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were to be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock an County Line church.

Mr. L. M. Atkinson Is Laid to Rest at County Line.
Funeral services for Mr. Lewis M. Atkinson, 80 years of age, prominent and beloved Butts county citizen whose death occurred on June 25, were held at County Line church Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Dr. C. C. Heard and Rev. A. A. Heath his pastor conducted the service in the presence of a large assemblage of relatives and friends. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. P. Ray, J. C. Cawthon, K. J. Thaxton, Alvin Tolleson, James Tolleson, Jean Thompson. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Atkinson's death followed a period of ill health extending over the past several months. He was one of the county's most highly esteemed citizens, being regarded as a man of unquestion and honesty and fair dealings and enjoyed the confidence and respect of al his acquaintances. He was connected with one of the pioneer families of the county.
Surviving Mr. Atkinson are two daughters, Mrs. Alma Smith of Locust Grove; Mrs. Susie Davis of Jonesboro; two sons, J. T. Atkinson and L. A. Atkinson. He is also survived by several grandchildren.
