Mrs. Mary Alice Thaxton Atkinson
Mrs. Atkinson, Butts Native, Passes Tuesday
Mrs. Mary Alice Thaxton Atkinson, 72, widow of Mr. Lonnie Atkinson, of Griffin, died early Tuesday morning at the Griffin-Spalding County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Atkinson was a native of Butts County and had lived in Griffin twenty-two years. She was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the DeVotie Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer G. Fowler and the Rev. A. C. Stephens officiating. Burial was in the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery near Jenkinsburg.
Mrs. Atkinson is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Jack Ogilvie, Mrs. James D. Head, Mrs. Ray P. Horton, all of Griffin, and Mrs. Wiley S. Flynt of Americus; two sisters Mrs. Menia Flynt and Mrs. C. H. Crawford, both of Griffin; two brothers, William T. Thaxton of Griffin and Lynn Thaxton of Jackson; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
