To the Editors
Monroe County, 13th July 1825
Gentlemen -- As it is usual for you to insert in your useful paper, extraordinary circumstances, I feel disposed to communicate to you, one which took place near here yesterday.
Charles Thaxton, Yelverton Thaxton, Calvary F . Knight and myself of this county, and Ezekiel Brown and my brother of Greene county, were not having(?) for ----, when a very angry cloud began to approach. My brother and myself, hastened to my house. The other four made for the nearest house (Mr. Sheerling's) and on approaching the yard a flash of lightning struck Mr. Charles Thaxton and killed him and his horse, instantaneously. Knight Brown and Y. Thaxton were all struck to the ground, all being on their feet near C. Thaxton. They all survived but are very much affected.
