Homer Lamar Vaughn
Funeral services for Homer Vaughn, 45, of Charlotte, N. C., former resident of Jackson, who was found dead in a wooded area near Charlotte September 7th from self-inflicted gun wounds, were held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock at the Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Butts County with Elder W. S. Kelly and Elder E. D. Speir officiating. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery with Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Vaughn, a native of Butts County, was the son of the late Mr. H. M. Vaughn and Mrs. Vaughn, who survives. He attended the local schools and moved to Charlotte some 22 years ago where he had a responsible position as traffic director for the Miller Motor Express Company.
Members of the family report that Mr. Vaughn was in a depressed condition. Recently hospitalized, he was spending a two weeks period of convalescence at home and was to have returned to work Monday.
A memorial service for Mr. Vaughn was held Thursday afternoon at the office of the Miller Motor Express Co. in Charlotte. Testimony as to .the esteem in which he was held by his employers, seven officials of the Express Co. from the Charlotte and Atlanta offices attended funeral services here for Mr. Vaughn.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pearl Hoffman Vaughn, and two daughters, Miss Patricia Vaughn and Miss Portia Vaughn, all of Charlotte; mother, Mrs. H. M. Vaughn of Jackson; three sisters, Mrs. W. M. Towles, Mrs. G. R. Ridgeway; and .Mrs. G. R. Lewis, all of Jackson; one brother, W. E. Vaughn of Atlanta.
Pallbearers were R. J. Thornton, Harold Vaughn, Jimmy Long, Rufus Vaughn, Alvin Vaughn, and Victor Brown.
