Mr. James Pierce Vaughn
Former Tax Collector Is Called By Death.
Following an illness of several years, Mr. J. P. Vaughn, former tax receiver of Butts county and a well known citizen, died at his home near Stark Saturday afternoon. His passing occasioned regret to a wide circle of friends.
Mr. Vaughn, who was 73 years of age, served one term as tax receiver a few years ago. He was a member of Old Bethel church and was regarded as a man of sterling honesty and integrity.
He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Pelt, of this county before her marriage; four sons, J. W. Vaughn, of Macon, Ira and Edd Vaughn, of Butts county, and Luther Vaughn, of Griffin; three daughters, Mrs. H. H. Ratcliff, of Griffin, Mrs. C. C. Barnes, of Butts county, and Mrs. F. L. Rape, of McDonough; a half-brother, Will Vaughn, of Fitzgerald.
Funeral services were conducted at Macedonia church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Elder Henderson, of Jonesboro. Interment was in the church yard.
