Wilburn Vaughn Dies of Stroke
Taylor Wilburn Vaughn, 71, farmer residing in the Old Bethel community, died at his home at 2 p. m. Thursday, October 7, as the result of a stroke suffered earlier in the day. He had walked into the yard in the morning and was found hours later by members of the family and passed away around 2 o'clock.
Son of Moses H. Vaughn and Mrs. Nancy King Vaughn, he had spent his entire life in Butts county. He was a member of Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church and took an active interest in community affairs.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p. m. at Old Bethel Church. Elder Earl Myers, Elder J. P. S. Stephens and the Rev. Walter Blackwell officiated and burial was in the Old Bethel cemetery with Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The pallbearers, nephews, were Wilmer Maddox, Ralph Vaughn, Elliott Vaughn, Alvin Vaughn, Victor Brown, Jack Taylor, Horace Davidson.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Thomas Vaughn; one daughter, Mrs. Hugh Barnes, and a son, Lamar Vaughn, both of Jackson; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Brown and Mrs. Tenella Maddox of Jackson; four brothers, Troy Vaughn of Jasper, Fla.; B. B. Vaughn of Jackson; George Vaughn of Barnesville and DeWitt Vaughn of Oaktown, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving is a foster son, Crowder Stodghill of Douglas, Ga.
