Mr. W. D. Vaughn Passes Suddenly
The death of Mr. William D. Vaughn, 61 years of age, prominent and well known resident of Jackson, occurred Saturday night at 11 o'clock at his home on McDonough Road. He was seized with a sudden illness at 9 o'clock and passed away two hours later. Until his last illness he had been in his accustomed health. The death of this prominent citizen brought regret to a host of friend.
Since 1926 Mr. Vaughn had been a resident of Jackson. He was born December 23, 1876 at Point Peter, Oglethorpe county, Georgia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac D. Vaughn of Oglethorpe county. Until several years ago Mr. Vaughn was a successful farmer but had retired from active business. During his residence here he made a host of friends who were attracted by his sterling qualities of character. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Jackson.
Surviving relatives include his wife, the former Miss Annie McCoy Turner, of Oglethorpe county; five children, James W. Vaughn, manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company office in Jackson; Luther David Vaughn and Mrs. R. T. Steele, of Orlando, Fla.; Miss Mavis Vaughn, Western Union operator at Greensboro, Ga., and Mrs. A. H. Carithers, of Danielsville, Ga. Mr. Vaughn was the last member of his immediate family.
The body was carried Monday to his former home at Point Peter, where funeral services were conduct ed at 2 o'clock by Rev. R. B. Harrison, pastor of the First Baptist church of Jackson. Interment was in the family lot in the churchyard, with S. H. Thornton in charge of arrangements.
