Tom Vaughn Murdered
Two Young Negroes Fall Out About a Girl and One is KilledAt a gathering of colored people at a tenant house on Mr. W. F. Hale´s farm near Flat Shoals, in this county, on Sunday night, Tom Vaughn, col., was stabbed and killed by Charlie Jester. It seems that both of them were courting the same sable damsel when hot feelings arose and Jester drew a long keen bladed knife and took the life of his rival. Vaught lived but a few minutes after receiving the wound. Jester made good his escape and is yet at large. At last accounts several self appointed colored deputy sheriffs were in pursuit, but the scapegoat has not been found.
