Mrs. E. E. Voorhis Is Claimed By Death
The death of Mrs. Emmett E. Voorhis, which occurred at her home in Towanda, Pennsylvania, at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning, brought deep regret to a wide circle of friends here where she was born and reared. Death followed a serious operation, performed in the hope of saving her life.
The body will be brought to Jackson Friday for funeral services and interment. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mrs. Voorhis, who was 39 years of age, was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Fletcher, of this city. She attended the Jackson public schools and studied piano music at Brenan College. She specialized in music and art and was talented in these lines, being recognized as one of Jackson's most skilled musicians. As Miss Sallie Mae Fletcher she was held in affectionate esteem by a host of friends. For the past few years she has made her home in the north, but retained her interest here where she was always cordially welcomed upon occasional visits.
Mrs. Voorhis was a member of the Jackson Methodist church and during her residence here took a leading part in church and religious activities.
She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Miss Hilda Davenport, of Towando, Pa.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Fletcher, four sisters, Mrs. J. W. Lee, of Ellijay, Ga., Miss Marguerite Fletcher, of Jackson, Mrs. John H. Haddock, of Macon and Miss Edith Fetcher, member of the faculty at the Georgia State College for Women at Milledgeville; two brothers, Mr. H. M. Fletcher, Jr., prominently connected with the Pepperton Cotton Mills, and Gerald Fletcher, student at the Georgia Technological school.

Funeral Services Friday For Mrs. E. E. Voorhis
The body of Mrs. Emmett E Voorhis, whose death occurred in Towanda, Penna., Tuesday morning, February 5, arrived in Jackson Friday morning and funeral services were held at the Jackson Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The love and esteem in which this popular young woman was held was attested by the lovely floral offerings and by the many friends who gathered for the impressive services. Rev. Henry H. Jones, former pastor of the Jackson Methodist church, assisted by Rev. T. M. Sullivan, present pastor, and Rev. Thomas M. Callaway, of the First Baptist church, conducted the services. Visitors were present from Atlanta, Macon, Griffin, McDonough and other cities. The pallbearers were Messrs. W. L. Nutt, J. W. O'Neal, C. E. McMichael, Geo. H. Kimbell, E. S. Settle and W. H. Wilson. The body was laid to rest in the Jackson city cemetery.
Mrs. Voorhis, formerly Miss Sallie Mae Fletcher, a talented and popular young woman of Jackson, is survived by her husband, Mr. Emmett E. Voorhis and a daughter, Miss Hilda Davenport, of Towanda, Penna; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Fletcher, of Jackson; four sisters, Mrs. J. W. Lee, of Ellijay, Ga., Miss Marguerite Fletcher, of Jackson, Mrs. John H. Haddock, of Macon, and Miss Edith Fletcher, Milledgeville; two brothers, Messrs. H. M. Fletcher, Jr. and Gerald Fletcher, of Jackson, all of whom have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
The following account of Mrs. Voorhis' death was printed in the Towando, Pa. Daily Review, February 6:
Mrs. Sarah E. Voorhis, wife of E. E. Voorhis, passed away Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock at the People's hospital in Sayre. She had been ill but a short time and her death following an operation at the hospital Monday evening came as a decidedly shock to her many acquaintances. Mrs. Voorhis had lived in Towanda for the past six years and during that time won the admiration and friendship of many. She was a native of Jackson, Georgia where she and Mr. Voorhis were married about six years ago. She was a member of the Methodist church of this place.
Besides her Husband, Emmitt Voorhis, the deceased is survived by a daughter, Miss Hilda Davenport, who is a student at Mansfield State Teachers College; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Fletcher, of Jackson, Georgia; two brothers, H. M. Fletcher and Gerald Fletcher, of Georgia and four sisters, Miss Marguerite Fletcher, of Jackson, Mrs. J. W. Lee, of Ellijay, Ga.; Mrs. John Haddock, of Macon, Ga., and Miss Edith Fletcher, of Milledgeville, Ga.
A prayer service will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Voorhis on York Avenue this Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock with Rev. Davis Johnson officiating, after which the body will be taken to Jackson, Ga. for interment.
