Ernest Lee (Coot) Young
Ernest Lee (Coot) Young, 78,of 236 Carmichael St., Jackson, died May 18 at the V.A. Regional Hospital in Decatur.
The funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Bocian officiating. Burial was in the Stark United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Young, a native of Newton County, was the son of Ernest Emory Young and Blanie Eugenia Debbs Young.
During World War II, he served in the Army in Europe. He was engaged in action in Germany, where he was wounded, and was decorated with the Purple Heart Medal.
He was a member of the Stark United Methodist Church and was employed by the Jackson Ice Plant for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Harris Young; sisters, Belle Spain of Smyrna, Frances J. Horton of Palmetto, and Graces Hays of Riverdale; stepbrother, Robert B. Johnston Sr. of Monticello; several nephews and nieces.
Haisten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
