Miss Mable Young Killed, Five Others Injured in Automobile Crash Sunday
Car Turned Over Several Times North of Jackson. Party Returning From a Visit Near Stark.
Miss Mabel Young, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hines W. Young of Jenkinsburg, succumbed early Monday in a Griffin hospital to injuries received Sunday night when the car in which she was riding with five other young people left the highway one mile north of Jackson and turned over in a ditch.
Five other occupants of the car suffered injuries varying from minor bruises to brain concussion.
Riding In the car, a 1939 Ford sedan, the property of Lee Hardy and driven Ralph Hardy, were Misses Ruth and Mabel Young and Carolyn Clark, Laney Wise, Ralph Hardy and Edward James.
The automobile was said t o have been traveling at a rapid rate of speed. When it left the pavement the car turned over and came to a stop with wheels in the air. The body of Miss Mabel Young was hurled 40 or 50 feet from the car, which was a battered wreck.
Given emergency treatment by a Jackson physician, Miss Young was rushed to a Griffin Hospital and died a few hours later.
Of the other occupants of the car, Ralph Hardy was most seriously hurt. He suffered a brain concussion and was taken to a hospital in Griffin where he remained unconscious for several hours.
The accident occurred between 8 and 10 o'clock between the first and and second creek north of Jackson .
State Troopers R. H. Weaver and R. E. Lee, investigated the accident.
Miss Ruth, 21, sister of the dead girl, was treated in Jackson for leg injuries and severe head and body bruises.
Miss Carolyn Clark had minor lacerations and bruises.
Laney Wise suffered face lacerations, chest injuries and severe body bruises.
Edward James was treated in Jackson for minor bruises and returned to his home.
The young people had visited at Stark during the afternoon and early evening and were taking the Misses Young to their home near Jenkinsburg.

Funeral Service for Miss Young
Miss Young was a popular young girl of the county and many relatives and friends were distressed to hear of the fatal accident. She was a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Hines Young and granddaughter of Mr. H. C. Clark of Stark. In addition to her parents and grandfather, she is survived by two brothers. Marshall and Harold, and her sister, Miss Ruth Young.
Impressive funeral rites were held at Macedonia church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. and the Rev. J. S. Hayes officiated. A concourse of relatives and friends gathered for final tribute and expressed their esteem by handsome floral offerings.
Burial followed in the church cemetery, the Thornton Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
