Local Girl Killed By Train
Michele Donna (Missy) Young, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Young, of 182 Edgewood Ave., Jackson, died early Tuesday morning at an Atlanta hospital from injuries received Monday afternoon when struck by a train.
According to Coroner John Sherrell, the accident occurred about 5:45 p.m. Monday when Miss Young, while talking with a group of friends, stepped onto the track and into the path of a Southern Railway freight train. The accident occurred on Railroad Avenue, between Jones Food Market and Avondale Mills.
Sustaining massive head injuries from the collision, Miss Young was taken to Sylvan Grove Hospital and later transferred to Georgia Baptist Hospital via helicopter.
Funeral plans, which are being handled by Sherrell Funeral Home were not complete at press time.
Miss Young is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Young; three sisters, Darla and Georgie Ann Young of Jackson, Mrs. Kathy McElhaney of Flovilla; two brothers, Mitch Young of Smyrna and Dick Young of Virginia Beach, Va.;
Grandparents, Mrs. Evelyn Awtry, Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. John L, Awtry of Forest Park; several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Young Rites Held Thursday
Funeral services for Miss Michelle Donna (Missy) Young, 18, of 182 Edgewood Avenue, Jackson, were conducted Thursday, August 7th, at 3:00 p.m, from the chapel of Sherrell Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Howell and the Rev. Bill Sheridan officiating. Interment was in the Jackson city cemetery. Miss Young died about 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta from injuries received Monday afternoon.
Born June 25, 1962 in Jacksonville, Fla., she was the daughter of J. T. Young and Barbara Awtry Young.
Survivors in addition to her parents included two brothers, Mr. Mitch Young of Smyrna and Mr. Dick Young of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Miss Darla Young, Miss Georgie Ann Young, and Mrs. Sharon Sweatman all of Jackson, and Mrs. Kathy McElhaney of Flovilla; grandparents, Mrs. Evelyn Awtry of Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. John L. Awtry of Forest Park; several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sherrell Funeral Home of Jackson was in charge of arrangements.
