William H. ANDREWS, 75, of rural route No. 2, Wray, died Aug. 27, 1949. He was b. Mar. 5, 1872 in the area of Clinch Co. that was made into Atkinson Co. His wife was the former Lucy Ella MATHIS. He was the son of Taylor Andrews and Emily Anderson Andrews Williams (b. Mar 3, 1850 d. Mar 1895).
Survivors include seven sons: J.T. and L.J. ANDREWS of Haines City, FL; Marvin, Joe, John, Quincey and Willie ANDREWS of Broxton; three daughters: Mrs. E.R. SPIRES, Douglas; Mrs J.W. CARTWRIGHT, Wray; Mrs Clem MERRITT, Douglas; one brother, Monroe "Roe" ANDREWS, Homerville, and 28 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Reedy Branch church by the Rev. Henry SEARS (my great uncle).
Pallbearers were Otix COX, Joe BRIDGES, Chester WOOTEN, Williard THOMAS; Martin D. THOMAS; and W.C. CARPENTER.
Lucy Ella Andrews of Rte 3, Douglas, d. Jan. 6, 1958 was interred at Reedy Branch Baptist Church. She was b. July 8, 1874, bp unkn. to James and Mary Edna Wood MATHIS.
Rev. Leon TAYLOR and Rev. Joe HULET were the officating ministers and music was furnished by the Coffee County Quartette. The deceased was a member of Bethel Baptist church and was 83 years old at the time of her death.
Survivors include six sons, Joe, John and Quincey ANDREWS of Douglas; Willie and Marvin ANDREWS of Kissimmee, FL. and Jimmie ANDREWS of Haines City; two daughters Mrs. Clem (Vera Mae) MERRITT, Douglas, Mrs. J.W. (Louella) CARTWRIGHT, Pearson, 29 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Freddie CREWS, Corbett CREWS, Hubert HARPER, Tom HAMILTON, Vernon COURSON and Lee HANCOCK.
Honorary pallbearers were Raden COURSEN, Tommie HARPER, Cecil MEEKS, Johnny HARPER, Louie BALLEY and Thurston HARPER.
