Singleton York was drafted for service in the Seminole Wars of 1817-1818 in
Appling, Columbia Co., GA. He applied for Bounty Land in 1850 and again in
1855 while living in Macon County, Alabama. Eventually, he moved to
Lafayette Co., MS where he died in 1870.

applications (No. 26833 for 40 acres under Act of 1850 and No. 58285 for 120
acres under Act of 1855). Applications are at the National Archives

STATE OF ALABAMA,
MACON COUNTY.
ON this the 2nd day of December A.D. one thousand eight hundred and Fifty,
personally appeared before me, Samuel Reed, a Justice of the Peace, within
and for the county and State aforesaid Singleton York aged 51 years, a
resident of Macon County in the State of Alabama, who being duly sworn
according to law, declares that he is the identical York who was a Private
in the company commanded by Captain Martin in the 1st regiment of Georgia
Militia commanded by Col. Milton in the war with the Seminole Indians
Declared by the United States on about the day of A.D. 1817 or 18. That he
was drafted at Aplin Columbia County, Georgia on or about the 1st day of
Feby A.D. 1818 for the term of three months and continued in actual service
for the term of three months and was honorably discharged at Hartsford,
Georgia on or about the 1 day of May A.D. 1818 has no writen discharge and
will appear by the muster rolls of said company.
He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to
which he may be entitled under the Act granting bounty land to certain
officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the
United States, passed September 28, 1850.

hereby certify that I believe the said Singleton York to be the identical
man who served as aforesaid, and that he is of the age above stated.

I Lewis Alexander Judge of the Probate Court of said county, do hereby
certify that Samuel Reed whose name appears to the above affidavit is, and
was at the time of signing the same, an acting Justice of the Peace in and
for said county aforesaid duly qualified and commissioned as the law
requires and that faith and credit are due to his official acts. Given under
my hand and seal this 16 day of December A.D. 1850.

BOUNTY LAND CLAIM
STATE OF Alabama
County of Macon
ON THIS 7th day of April A.D. 1855 personally appeared before me, Saml Reed
a Justice of the Peace within said County and State aforsaid, Singleton York
aged 55 years, a resident of the County of Macon and State of Alabama who
being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical person
who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain Benjamin Martin in the
1st regiment of Militia commanded by Colonel Milton in the War with the
Florida Indians 1818. That he was drafted at Columbia Co Ga on or about the
– day of Jan A.D. 1818 for the term of three months and continued in actual
service in said war, for the term of three months and was honorably
discharged at Hartsford Ga on the – day of April A.D. 1818 as will appear by
the Muster Roll of said Company, the discharge certificate of which has not
been obtained. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining Bounty
Land granted by the Act passed March 3d 1855; and he hereby declares that he
has recd a warrant No 26821 which has been legally disposed of for 40 Acres
and he has not applied for, or received, and he believes he is not entitled
to Bounty Land except as above stated,
