Transcription of the Obit of Adam Jones by Sue Jones
From the Augusta Chronicle, Saturday, November 25, 1826 "Another Limb has dropped from the Tree of the Revolution! Died, on the 13th inst. at the residence of T. Dooly Esq. in Columbia county, GA. ADAM JONES, Esq. aged 67 years. Mr. Jones was one of the very few relics which time had left us of the War of the Revolution through the whole of which conflict he bore arms. -- He was in most of the memorable battles which took place in the Southern States: the defeat of Gaines, Guilford C. H. C. and at the capture of Yorktown, when the last blow was struck in a contest which gave freedom to a world. To repeat such interesting incidents, is eulogy sufficient - it is enough to awaken our gratitude, and consecrate the memory of the departed; but Mr. Jones had other claims, in his private virtues, to our esteem; and he has left many behind him, who will long remember him with affectionate regret. NOTE: T. Dooly was Adam Jones son-in-law. |
