Hixie Martin, born June 26, 1813 in Warren County, Tennessee, was the first born daughter of
Tavner Martin and his wife Cynthia League. Hixie married Jesse Powell (born January 14, 1810)
in Dade County, Georgia between 1834 and 1837. They had at least seven known children:

2) Rhoda Elizabeth Powell (b. September 22, 1844) who married first a Mr. Steadman and 2nd Benjamin Martin

4) William E. b. December 4, 1848 and married Sarah E.
5) Juda 'Judy' Ann, b. January 20, 1851 who married Daniel E. Ellis
6) John Tavner Powell, b 1853 who married Emily Stone; and presumably
7) Robert D. Powell, b June 29, 1855 who married Lula E.
Hixie and Jesse Powell lived in the Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia tri-state area in or near
Dade County, Georgia. Hixie Martin's father, Tavner Martin, lived right on the border of
Dade and Hamilton Co, TN. Peter Tittle, brother-in-law of Hixie Martin Powell, lived
about 1/4 mile from Tavner. Hixie Martin & Jesse Powell lived next door to Peter Tittle.
Hixie received her part of her father's (Tavner Martin) estate in 1867-68, and was the only
daughter who received money from her father's will. She purchased the Martin family bible
from Tavner Martin's estate.
Jesse Powell died before 1870 as Hixie Martin-Powell was listed as a 'widow' on the 1870
Dade County, Georgia census, house no. 140, Morganville, and her worth was approximately $1000/900.
On the 1880 census Hixie was age 67 and living with her daughter Juda (Judy) Ann Powell Ellis,
Juda's husband Daniel E. Ellis, and children in Dade Co, GA. Hixie moved to Texas with her daughter Juda
and other children some time after 1880 . John Tavner Powell was the only child who did not move to Texas.
Hixie lived with her daughter Judy "Ann" and son-in-law Dan Ellis. They lived first near Waco
(Bosque County 1901) and then moved near Garden Valley (near Lindale) Smith County, in east Texas.
She died in 1905 and is buried in Union Chapel Cemetery, Smith Co, Texas.
