Family of Isaac Williams
by
Larry G. Williams
Isaac H. Williams was born on about 1804 in North Carolina and he married
Clarienda McCoy who was also born in North Carolina in about 1816. They
married in about 1834 and it is not know whether or not they were married in
Tennessee or North Carolina. The first provable record of them occurs in the
1850 census of South Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee where they lived as
Isaac was a carpenter. Their children living with them were: James Henry,
Thomas I, Amanda M., Clarinda, Robert T. and Isaac Newton. The family moved
to Dade County, Georgia between 1850 and 1860 with the exception of Isaac
Newton. He another stays behind or, like many sons, moved to another state
in pursuit of land. Isaac and his family ap[pears in the 1860 census of Dade
County, Georgia living in the 873 Georgia Militia District with a mailing
address of Shellmound, Tennessee. He was a barkeeper and may have been a
barkeeper in the Cole City area of Dade County. In the 1870 Census Isaac is
listed as living with his son in Trenton, Georgia. None of the children,
other than James Henry are listed with him. He is a retired carpenter and
James is a carpenter. It has not been conclusively proven but several
researchers believe his daughter Clarinda married Martin VanBuren Webb in
Marion County, Tennessee. If this is the case they moved to Oklahoma where
they had eight children: John, Amanda, Wiley A, Celia, Berry, Eliza, Mary
and Dora. The other children have not been found with the exception of the
possibility that Robert T. married and also moved to Oklahoma. A 1920 census
of McAlester Ward 4, Pittsburg, Oklahoma lists a Robert T.Williams that fits
everything in terms of birth date, place of birth and place of birth of both
parents. If this is the case he is living with his son and son’s spouse:
Joseph R. & Mollie Williams. This is only speculation at this time.
Back to Dade County where James henry Williams was living in 1870 Since
Isaac does not appear anywhere in 1880 it is thought that he died between
1870 and 1880 in Dade County. Family tales said that he often explored
Nickajack cave and even carved his initials inside the cave. Since the cave
has been flooded by TVA this is not longer verifiable and family even says
he is buried at Nickajack. His son James Henry married Henrietta Brewer in
Dade County in about 1876. Henrietta was previously married to Robert Woods
Bice and both were from Tennessee. They were divorced 31 May 1872 in Athens,
McMinn, Tennessee. Henrietta’s father and mother were John P. brewer born
about 1816 in Tennessee who was married to Juda Baber. Juda was buried in
Dade County in the Old Allison cemeter which lists her birth as 14 Nov 1806
and died on 02 January 1883. Juda had two children who were raised by John
Henry and Juda. Her two children were Juda N. Bice and Robert Bateman Bice.
Henrietta and James had seven children together: James Henry Jr., John
Isaac, Thomas Edward, Elena Bell, Mollie Etta, Clarenda Luella & George
Lafayette. Of thse children the following were born in Georgia and it is
know that at least two in Rising Fawn. Those born in Georgia were: George
Lafayette, Clarenda Luella, James Henry, Thomas Edward and Elena Bell. The
family lived in the Deer head Cove region in the 1880 census as next door
neighbors to John and Sarah Dean with the address of Beat 13, Dekalb,
Alabama. John Isaac was born in Alabama (presumably Dekalb County) and
Mollie Etta was born in Tennessee most likely South Pittsburg. Henrietta
died on 05 Sep 1912 in South Pittsburg, Marion , Tennessee but it is not
known here she was buried. James Henry, Sr. died on 12 Nov 1922 and is
buried at the Moon Cemetery located at Owens Crossroads, new Hope, Alabama.
There are no grave markers for his grave so the location is unknown.
The family of James and Henrietta moved to various parts of Alabama with
George Lafayette being buried at Section Bluff Cemetery, Section, Jackson,
Alabama; Clarenda married Walter Jefferson Newman in Rising Fawn and she is
buried in Chattanooga, TN; James Henry (Jim) , Jr. married either a Henry or
McClenahan (or both) and he is buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Bridgeport,
Jackson, Alabama; John Isaac married Ida Bell Henson and is buried at
Bonaventure Cemetery, Bridgeport, Jackson, Alabama; Thomas Edward married
Laura Moon and is buried at Crestwood Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah, Alabama;
Elena Bell married David Paul Floyd and is buried at Oakwood-Sheffield
Cemetery, Colbert County, Alabama; Mollie Etta married James David Joyner
and is buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Bridgeport, Jackson, Alabama; Robert
Bice married Annie Harvey and is buried in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama
and last Juda Bice married William H. Rowland and she is buried at
Bonaventure Cemetery, Bridgeport, Jackson, Alabama.
