I wish to thank Audie LaVonne and Walton B. Counts for "caring enough to share" their family research data. She states: "Uncle Allie (Carter) learned that his grandfather's brother was the one who had deeded the land (two (2) acres) for the cemetery. The old gentleman was named Smith Carter. We are hearing from area researchers who are calling the cemetery the Old Carter Cemetery since it was the first in the county and the story is that the church was named Olivett Methodist Church. My husband (Audie L. Counts) is the guardian of the cemetery." Directions to Cemetery: State Highway 84, well marked flashing light for Howell (GA), Road 135 - cemetery located exactly 10 miles. Look for two red bridk homes with three silos - turn onto Cemetery Lane - one-fourth (1/4) mile on right. |
