Lewis R. Powell

Lewis R. Powell was born in Virginia, somewhere, records lost, in 1792.  He fought in the War of 1812, married a Sarah before moving to Hall County, Ga. He and Sarah had 8 or 9 children in this area, and also owned land here.  Their Children's names are:

1. Daughter - born bef. 1820 (on the 1820 census of Hall Co.)
2. Pressly Powell
married Lucinda Mayhan, born May 21, 1831,
    she died April 20, 1869.
Newton died Oct. 10, 1910 in Texarkana, Texas,
buried at Red Lick Cemetery, 10 miles west of Texarkana.
7. Sevier Powell (Pete?) - born in Hall Co. Ga.
8. Keziah Caroline (Powell) Lanier - born 1837
married a Lewis Green Lanier from Maury Co. Tn.
cir. 1860-1865, and had 3 children:
Ambrose Lanier, Pressly Lanier, and Betty Lanier,
    she married a Dooley.

Sometime between 1835 and 1840 Lewis R. Powell and his family moved to Walker Co. Ga.  He might have won land in the Land Lottery in 1828. Something happened to Sarah after 1835 to 1840.  Lewis R. Powell shows up in Walker Co. Ga., with a new wife, Elizabeth Burke, a few children from his first wife Sarah, and a new daughter named

1. Mourning - born in 1849 (1850 census Walker Co. Ga.)

Lewis R. Powell and Elizabeth Burke's other children are:

2. Lewis Ervin (or Irvin) Powell - born 1850 in Walker Co. Ga.,
died in 1926 in Walker Co. Ga. He married Ella or Ellen Nelson
and had 12 or 13 children.  He is also my Gr. Grandfather
    (my name: Pat (Powell) Springer).
3. Nancy Powell - born 1853 in Walker Co. Ga.
4. Upson Powell - born in Walker Co. Ga., 3-4-1854,
married Mary Mure, and died 3-19-1938
buried in Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland, Tn.

This family lived out a lot of their grown lives in Walker Co. Ga., that began somewhere in Hall Co. Ga., or somewhere in Virginia.  They all were land owners.  Am looking for parents, grandparents, and siblings for Lewis R. Powell.  He does have a brother named Pressly Powell, that married Nelly Castleberry about 1822 in Hall Co., they moved about the same time that Lewis R. Powell did, to Paulding Co. and Harlson Co. Ga. sometime after 1830.
