INDENTURE/CONVEYANCE DEED DATED JANUARY 7, 1840

ESTATE OF RHODUM GRIGGS AND NATHANIEL GRIGGS

This Indenture made this seventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty between the legatees of 
the estate of Rhodum Griggs dec'd, viz, Robert Griggs and Henry Griggs of Troup County, State of Georgia, Thomas J. Sanders of 
Talbot County, Francis P. Crutchfield of Wilkinson County, and the heirs of Wiley Griggs of Fayette County, Lenner Griggs & Milly 
Griggs of Coweta County, and the heirs of Isham Thornton dec'd. viz. Harrison Thornton, Rhodum Thornton, Isham Thornton, Robert 
Thornton, Milly Thornton, Lucy Thornton, and Sarah Thornton of Troup County. And the heirs of Joseph Pritchet late of Hancock County dec'd. viz. Wiley Pritchet, William Pritchet and Rhodam Pritchet of Monroe County, and Philip Pritchet of Hancock County, 
all of the state aforesaid of the one part and Nathaniel Griggs of Hancock County and State aforesaid of the other part.

Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and eighty dollars, to them the said legatees in hand 
paid, hath bargained, sold and transferred to the said Nathaniel Griggs, his heirs, executors and asigns (a certain tract or parcel 
of land lying in the county of Hancock and estate aforesaid on the waters of Fork Creek in the one hundred and second district G. M. 
adjoining Elizabeth Brown, James Hall and others, containing two hundred and seventy five acres more or less.

The said legatees bind themselves, their heirs, executors and asigns to warrant and defend the right and title to the before 
described tract or parcel of land together with all and singular the right and appurtenances thereunto unto the said Nathaniel 
Griggs, his heirs and asigns against all and every other claim whatsoever.

In witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and seal this day and date above mentioned.

Personally appeared before me Burwell Brown a Justice of the Peace 
in and for the said County James Wilcoxon who being duly sworn 
deposeth and saith that he saw Robert Griggs, Levi Wilcoxon, 
Rhodam Griggs, Henry Griggs, Thomas J. Sanders, F. P. Crutchfield, 
William Pritchett, Wiley Pritchett, Rhodam Pritchett, Robert 
Thornton, Rhodam Thornton, John D. Grainger, Harrison Thornton, 
Isham W. Thornton, James Hatchcock & sign, seal and deliver the 
within deed unto Nathaniel Griggs for the purposes therein 
contained and that he saw John E. Jones, Willis Thornton sign the 
same as a witness and he deponent done likewise.
