Kevin Miller ( kevin.miller@hopkins.kyschools.us ) is researching John Miller.
He provides the following information:
My Miller family line that came out of South Carolina through my ggg grandfather, John Miller, born in SC in 1770. We believe he was from Chesterfield Co. SC and
we know he migrated to Montgomery Co. TN by 1814 and then finally settled in Calloway Co. KY in 1821. I have closely matched a line of Millers from Lancaster Co. SC and Chesterfield Co. SC through YDNA testing with Family Tree DNA.
I have a land sale between a John Miller in 1804 and 1808 in Anson Co. NC. He is listed as being a resident of Hancock Co. GA. This land was on the Little Thompson’s Creek which is actually in the northern part of Chesterfield Co. SC, very near my DNA cousins who lived on each side of the Lynches River as early as 1760. The NC and SC border was in dispute about this time and many SC land owners actually filed deed papers in Wadesboro, NC in Anson Co. NC.
There is a John Miller among several Millers on the 1805 and 1807 Georgia Land Lotteries. I believe the land may be in Baldwin Co. GA, but at that time Baldwin may have been in Hancock Co. GA. I believe John Miller would have left SC, migrated west to GA, to get a chance for new lands in GA, as many South Carolinians did at that time.
I am interested in information on this John Miller and these two lotteries. I am also wanting to find any land records where John Miller might have sold any land just before
1814. If I can connect the SC John Miller to the GA John Miller and then to the TN John Miller, I may be able to explain where my ggg grandfather was between 1807 and 1814. His
youngest son, Timothy, was said to have been born in SC in 1807. I believe this could be my John Miller. Whether the family left SC and went to GA, I don’t know. John owned quite a
bit of land in KY, had slaves in TN and KY, so he may have been somewhat wealthy. He does own a 200 acre plantation in Montgomery Co. TN from 1814-1821 and owns a lot of land in Calloway Co. KY by 1825 in the Jackson Purchase patents.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did find the lists of people involved in both lotteries on the internet this evening.
