The State of Georgia has provided a wonderful
service by putting marriage books on line. These are located in the
Virtual
Vault. In the section at the bottom of the page under "County",
drop down to Haralson then
click search. This will provide a list the Marriage Books and the years each
book covers. Select the years you wish to peruse. On the left side of the
page, select " +Index" and select the first letter of the surname you wish to
research. By following the links given, you will find a copy of the marriage
license.
The following Haralson County, Georgia marriage records were transcribed from microfilm reel numbers 292, 208-9, 223, 391, 9-392 and 9-393. The marriage license page numbers are based upon the page numbers on the microfilm. The page number and book are given in some cases however, I believe the County maintains the license in alphabetical order according to groom. The microfilm information is useful only if you are viewing the microfilm at State Archives or other locations. The years covered are: Reel 292 1859-1882 Contains Loose Papers. Some are also on Reel 208-9. Reel 208-9 1865-1903 Contains Book A, B Reel 223 1897-1909 Contains Book D. Reel 391 1909(Black)- Vol. 2 Reel 9-392 1909(Black Con't - Vol. 2), White Vol. 2 Reel 9-392} 1910-1940 & 9-393} Information included on the marriage license form was Names of Bride and Groom, date license was issued, name of person issuing license, name of officer of the court performing the marriage, date of marriage and then date recorded by the court. A few notes were included on the film that listed the brides parents names and have been included in the space "marriage performed by:" instead of the ministers name. Every effort has been made to transcribe the records correctly, however, errors may have occurred. The actual licenses on file at the Probate Court in Haralson County have not been examined. There may be licenses at the court that were not included on the film. For a period of about 15 years after 1940, the court did not keep a copy of the licenses so many marriage certificates are missing. |
