 A tax digest is not a viable genealogical tool but it does list property owners for the tax year. The digest is helpful perhaps

in indicating a death where either the widow's name is shown as owner of property, or perhaps an agent is filing the tax on

behalf of the estate which might indicate a recent death. The first column is the district number (in 1892) where the
property is located. The districts changed later since Poplar Springs included the community of Steadman.  You may view
