This is the family graveyard of Jacob Bernhard and his wife, Esther Lites,
whose graves are marked with large un-inscribed fieldstones. Descendants also
spell the name Bernhardt.
It is located on lot #214 in the 3rd District
near Luella, Henry Co., Georgia on the Towaliga River. It is off of
Hampton-Locust Grove Rd, unmarked, on private property and way back in the
woods. It is between the Griffin and Atkin's places.
The
ALLEN/BERNHARDT/WEEMS/RAWLS connection was pretty strong, by marriage and
friendship. In order to get to the old family cemetery in Henry Co, you have to
turn onto a dirt road that runs right next to the old WEEMS plantation. The
plantation house survived Sherman's March because of some favor to Mrs. WEEMS.
There are many unmarked graves.
