Full Title: To authorise the justices of the Inferior Court of Henry county to convey to the trustees of the Henry county academy a part of the lands heretofore purchased for county purposes for the purpose of erecting thereon an academy [Illegible Text].

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia, in General Assembly met, [Illegible Text] it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the justices of the inferior court of Henry county be authorised and empowered out of any lands by them heretofore purchased for county purposes, and not otherwise disposed of, to convey to the trustees of the Henry county academy in [Illegible Text] simple, such portion thereof as may be thought necessary for the purpose of erecting an academy edifice thereon, and such other lot or lots of land as the said justices of the court may think proper to convey to the said trustees aforesaid by way of donation or otherwise.

Short Title: To incorporate the Henry County Academy, and to appoint Trustees for the same.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That John Griffin, Samuel Johnston, William L. Crayton, John Wood, William Hardin, John Lovejoy and Joseph [Illegible Text] be and they are hereby appointed, and they and their successors in office shall be and they are hereby declared to be a body corporate, by the name and under the title of the Trustees of the Henry County Academy, with the privilege of using a common seal.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said trustees and their successors in office, or a majority of them, are hereby authorised and empowered to appropriate in the manner they may think best calculated to promote the interest of the aforesaid institution, and to erect suitable edifices for the promotion of literature, all money and specialties or other valuable effects whatsoever belonging to, or in anywise appertaining to the said institution.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the aforesaid trustees and their successors in office, or a majority of them, are hereby authorised to make such bye-laws and regulations as may be necessary for the government of said academy. Provided, such bye-laws and regulations be not repugnant to the constitution and laws of this state; and the said trustees shall be entrusted with all manner of property, both real and personal, all donations, grants, gifts, privileges and immunities whatsoever, which may belong to said institution by virtue of this act, or which may hereafter [Illegible Text] made, conveyed or transferred to them or their successors in office, to have and to hold the same: Provided, that nothing in this act contained shall operate to impair or destroy in any-wise the superintendence and control given by law to the [Illegible Text] [Illegible Text] of this state, over public schools instituted or supported by public monies or funds of the same.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the trustees aforesaid, and their successors in office, shall and they are hereby declared to be capable of suing and being sued, to plead and be impleaded, [Illegible Text] of using all other necessary and lawful means for [Illegible Text] and defending any property, debts, or demands whatsoever which they may claim or demand in right of said institution.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That should any vacancy happen by death, resignation, removal or otherwise, of any of the trustees of said academy hereby authorised and established, it shall be filled in such manner as a majority of the remaining trustees may [Illegible Text] out in their regulations at their first meeting after the passing of this act, or at any meeting thereafter. Provided, That it shall be the duty of said trustees, at the earliest practicable period after any vacancy, to cause the same to be filled.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the said trustees shall have power to elect a treasurer, who shall give bond with approved security to the said trustees for the time being, and their successors in office, in the sum of two [Illegible Text] dollars, for the faithful discharge of the trust reposed in him.

SEC. 7. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That all laws and parts of laws militating against the true intent and meaning of this act, be and the same are hereby repealed.

Full Title: AN ACT to amend and explain an act, entitled an Act to incorporate the Henry County Academy, and to appoint trustees for the same -- passed the ninth of December, eighteen hundred and twenty-four.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the said act shall be so construed as to authorise and empower the trustees of said Academy and their successors in office, to sell and convey in fee simple titles, any lot or lots of land or real estate, which they do now, or may hereafter possess, by virtue of any private donation whatever, and to apply the proceeds of such sale to the benefits of said institution, as by said act of incorporation provided for.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That so much of the said act, and all other acts as militate against the true intent and meaning of this act be, and the same are hereby repealed.

Full Title: AN ACT to incorporate certain Academies therein named and to appoint Trustees for the same, and to confer certain powers, rights, and privileges upon the same.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Jinkin Wilson, Eaton Bancks, Henry S. Smith, Richard Turner, and Trige M. Hardwick, and their successors in office be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the Pleasant Academy in the county of Jasper; who shall have full power to fill all vacancies which may happen in their Board, and to be entitled to all the rights, privileges, and immunities which are conferred by this law upon any Academy.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Cullin Lockett, William H. Pritchard, Alexander Spencer, James J. Bancks,

Robert Tripp, John Sneed, and Thomas Stanford be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the Female Academy in the town of Culloden, with power to add to their number, if desired by the Board, and to fill such vacancies as may occur in the Board, and to have all the rights, privileges, and immunities which by this law are conferred upon any Academy.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That Gibson Clarke, Bushrod Pettit, Guy W. Smith, Henly Varner, Thomas D. Johnson, and Jonathan M. Peck be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the Henry County Academy at the town of McDonough, in addition to the number already allowed by law; and the said Commissioners herein named, and their successors in office, shall be vested with the privileges, immunities, and legal authorities from the passage of this Act which are by law vested in the Trustees of said Academy by the Act incorporating the same.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That Richard Pace, John Martin, Elisha Perryman, Isham Broocks, and William Maddox, and their successors in office be, and they are hereby declared Trustees of Pace's Academy in the county of Putnam, and as such are hereby declared to be a body corporate, with the power of suing and being sued, of pleading and being impleaded, of having, holding, and conveying property real and personal belonging to said Academy, of making and using a common seal, and of doing all other things appertaining to said Corporation.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That the Trustees of said Academy shall have full power and authority to adopt such by-laws and regulations for the government of the same: Provided such by-laws and regulations are not repugnant to the Constitution and Laws of the State or of the United States.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That any vacancies which may happen in said Board of Trustees by death, resignation, or otherwise, the subscribers shall, upon ten days public notice, assemble at the said Academy, and by ballot elect Trustees to fill any such vacancies: Provided that any two or more freeholders, residents of said county and not subscribers, shall preside at said election; and Provided that said election shall be determined by a majority of the votes of the subscribers present and voting.

SEC. 7. And be it further enacted, That the said Trustees as a body corporate shall be capable of accepting and being vested with all manner of property real and personal, all donations, gifts, grants, bequests, privileges, and immunities whatsoever, which may belong to said institution, or to be hereafter conveyed to them and their successors in office, to have and to hold the same to the proper use, benefit, and behoof of said Academy.

SEC. 8. And be it further enacted, That William Murphee, Matthew Jones, Jesse Cox, Fielding J. Brown, Allen Junning, Addison E. Harris, and James Grubbs, and their successors in office be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the Bark Camp Academy in the county of Burke; and that when any vacancy shall happen in the Board of Trustees to fill the same by a majority of the Trustees; and they shall be entitled to receive a portion of the Academy fund of the county of Burke, and shall have all the immunities and rights conferred by this Act upon any other Academy therein mentioned.

SEC. 9. And be it further enacted, That William Fish, Alexander Irwin, Benjamin Sessions, Benjamin Tarberton, and William B. Glenn, and their successors in office be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees for Union Academy in the county of Washington, to be entitled to all the privileges and benefits, and under the same provisions of other incorporated Academies in said county.

SEC. 10. And be it further enacted, That Moses Jones, William W. Welbourn, Drury Kindrick, William O. Rutledge, Abraham Miles, John P. Hardy, and Nathaniel J. Scott, and their successors in office be, and they are hereby declared to be a body corporate, by the name and under the style of the Trustees of the Prospect Academy in Harris County; and they are as such declared to be capable of using a common seal, of suing and being sued, of pleading and being impleaded in the several courts of law and equity in this State, of receiving and holding for the use of said Academy all donations, gifts, grants, and bequests, of executing and receiving titles to property, of executing and receiving acquittances, for making such by-laws, not contrary to the Constitution and Laws of this State, as they may deem proper for the government of said Academy, of removing, by a vote of the majority, all officers for a neglect of duty or improper conduct, and of filling all vacancies that may occur by death, resignation, or otherwise.

SEC. 11. Be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That Daniel Malone, Allen Green, John Drury, William D. Ethridge, Jeremiah W. Stokes, Francis Tufts, and John W. Gordin be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the Blountsville Academy in the county of Jones: That James R. Cox, Robert Burt, Davis Dawson, William Barron, and Ichabod Davis be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of Blountsville Academy in the county of Upson: That Live R. Bullard, William Irwin, John Driver, William Prior, and John Meacham be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the Union Academy in the county of Pike.

SEC. 12. And be it further enacted, That Joseph I. Singleton, Asa Varner, William Bell, Sterling Combs, and Walter S. Mitcheal, and their successors in office be, and they are hereby appointed and declared to be a body corporate, under the name and style of the Trustees of the Prospect Academy of the county of Jackson.

SEC. 13. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the said several Boards of Trustees and their successors in office be, and they are hereby appointed and declared to be bodies corporate and politic, under the several names, and as such shall be capable and liable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, and shall be authorized to make such by-laws and regulations as may be necessary for the government thereof; Provided such by-laws be not repugnant to the Constitution and Laws of this State; and for that purpose may have and use a common seal, and appoint such officers as they may think proper, and remove the same from office.

SEC. 14. And be it further enacted, That the said Trustees shall be capable of accepting and being invested with all manner of property both real and personal, all gifts, donations, grants, rights, privileges, and immunities whatsoever, which may belong to said institutions, or which may hereafter be conveyed or transferred to them or their successors in office, to have and to hold the same for the benefit of said Academies.

SEC. 15. And be it further enacted, That, in addition to the present Board of Trustees of the Walton County Academy, Waters Brisco, Peter G. Morrow, Orin Stroud, Paul T. Willis, and Reuben Weaver, sen. be, and they are hereby appointed as Trustees for said Academy, with the same

powers and privileges of those formerly constituting the Board for said institution.

SEC. 16. And be it further enacted, That Lewls Leroy and William B. Wafford be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the Clarksville Academy in the county of Habersham, in addition to those already appointed.

SEC. 17. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That Frederick Sims, Elijah Catter, Elijah Matthews, Matthew Hughs, and John McMurrain be, and they are hereby appointed, and they and their successors in office are declared to be a body corporate, by the name and under the title of the Trustees of Bibb Academy.

SEC. 18. And that Anderson Rice, Henry S. Catter, James R. Lowry, George B. Wardlaw, Eleazer McCall, David Flanders, and Joseph Willet be, and they are hereby appointed, and they and their successors in office are declared to be a body corporate, by the name and under the title of the Trustees of the Marion Academy in the county of Bibb: and that the Trustees of said Academies respectively be, and they are hereby vested with all the authority and powers, and subject to the same liabilities as the Trustees of the Lake Academy in the county of Bibb.

SEC. 19. And be it further enacted by the authority of the same, That Gideon Strange, English Smith, Isaac R. Youngblood, Lewis Dupree, Wiley W. Cullins, and Frederick Cullins be, and their successors in office, are hereby appointed Trustees of the Farmer's School in the county of Washington, under the same rules and restrictions, and entitled to the same benefits, of the other incorporated Academies in said county.

SEC. 20. And be it further enacted, That Hudson Wade, William Hanson, William Perkins, William Stallings, and Nathan Aldridge be, and they are hereby made a body corporate, under the name and style of Commissioners of Union Academy in the county of Morgan.

SEC. 21. And that said Commissioners be, and they are hereby empowered, as a body corporate, to use a common seal, sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in the several courts of law and equity in this State, make all by-laws which may be necessary to the government of said Academy not contrary to the laws of this State, appoint their successors,

fill vacancies, make, receive, and execute all conveyances, acquittances, and receipts, hold property real and personal, and any and all things do in reference to the interest of said Academy which may not be contrary to the Constitution and Laws of this State.

SEC. 22. And be it further enacted, That John Hunter and Alexander Duncan be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees for the Blairsville Academy in the county of Union, in place of John Lander and R. Holden, removed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That immediately after the passage of this act, that the number of Trustees of the Henry county Academy be five, and that Adam C. Sloan, Humphrey, Tomlinson, Leonard T. Doyal, Lewis L. Ledbetter and Daniel Nolley be, and they are hereby appointed Trustees of the said Henry County Academy, and that they have full power to fill any vacancy that may occur in that body, by death or otherwise, and that all laws and parts of laws contrary to this act, be, and the same are hereby repealed.

That R. G. Crittenden, Daniel Owens, Peter F. Mahone, John Robinson and John Allums, and their successors, be appointed trustees for Jackson academy, in the county of Talbot.

That Joseph Reese, Jesse George, Thomas Wood, George W. Turrentine and W. B. McKenney, and their successors, be appointed trustees for Corinth academy, in the county of Heard: Provided, That said trustees shall not draw any part of the academic funds of the county of Heard.

That T. J. Warthen, Eli Cummins, John Wicker, Thomas Wicker and Richard Warthen, and their successors, be appointed trustees for Bethlehem academy, in the county of Washington; to be entitled to all the benefits, and under the same provisions of the other academies of said county.

That Joseph Washburn, Isaac Harvey, Edward W. Wright, Christopher B. Strong and Charles J. McDonald, and their successors, be appointed trustees for the Bibb county academy.

That Robert McGough, Alexander Russell, Reddick B. Perry, William Turner and Robert Winn, and their successors in office, be appointed trustees of the Pine Grove Grammer school, in the county of Monroe.

That Samuel M. Devereux, James L. Daniel, Thomas J. Sanders, Joseph McCulloch, and Thomas W. Barton, and their successors in office, be appointed trustees of the Farmers' academy, in the county of Hancock.

That Alexander Dennard, George Walker, Henry W. Fenn, Nathan Hodges and Thomas McGriff, and their successors

in office, be appointed trustees of the Walnut Branch academy, in the county of Pulaski.

Sec. 2. And be ii further enacted, That Jefferson academy in Newton county, be entitled to receive one half of the nett proceeds of the academic fund of the county of Newton, and that Wm. Patrick, Jas. Bellah, Jas. McLaughlin, [Illegible Text] [Illegible Text], Robert Rakestraw, Joseph Livingston, Barzilla Graves, John Russel and John Chisolm, be added to the board of trustees to said academy.

That George Osborn, James McGehee, Taliaferro Wells, Springer Gibson, Thomas Whitehead, John Pasmore and Absalom Biddle, be appointed trustees for Jenkins academy, in the county of Harris, and they are hereby authorised to remove said academy buildings from lot number three, in the twenty-second district, to lot number two hundred and seventy-two, in the seventeenth district, formerly Muscogee, now Harris county.

That J. J. Slaughter, William Mitchell, Julius M. Mitchell, J. Hubbard and N. H. Walher, and their successors in office, be appointed trustees to the Jackson academy, in Henry county.

That David C. Rose, John Slayton, Abraham Hill, and Alfred Wilbourn, and their successors in office, be appointed trustees of the Warm Spring academy, in the county of Merriwether.

That Thomas Frayan, William W. Jordan, James M. Williams, Alexander B. Taylor and James McMurray, and their successors, be appointed trustees of the Mount Carmel academy, in the county of Crawford.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That Abner Wimberly, Reddick Bryan, Thomas Gilbert, Henry Conyers, and James O'Bryan, be, and are hereby appointed trustees for the Houston county Ocmulgee academy. And be it further enacted, That said trustees may locate said academy building at any place in the eleventh or tenth districts of said county, that a majority of them may agree upon.

Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That the trustees of the poor school fund of said county, be authorised to pay to said commissioners of the Houston county Ocmulgee academies, one fourth of the academy fund of said county, for the ensuing two years.

And that Ralph Howard, Demsey Justice, Nathan Raines, James W. Alston, Jesse Moran, and [Illegible Text] successors in office, be and they are hereby declared to be trustees of the Union academy, in the county of Bibb.

Sec. 5. And be it further enacted, That William A. Sharp, Elisha Davis, Jeremiah A. Sharp, William Davis and Thomas S. Chappel, and their successors in office, be, and they are hereby declared to be a body politic and corporate, by the name and style of the trustees of Stone Creek academy, in the county of Twiggs; and that Joseph M. Evans, Thomas S. Bonner, James Evans, John G. Colbut and John Swann, Sr. and their successors in office, be, and they are hereby declared to be a body corporate, by the name and under the title of the commissioners of the Evansville academy, of Morgan county.

Sec. 6. And be it further enacted, That the aforesaid commissioners of the Evansville academy, and their successors in office, be, and they are hereby declared to be, capable of using a common seal, of suing and being sued, pleading and being impleaded in the several courts of law and equity in this State; of receiving and holding for the use of said academy, all donations, gifts, grants and bequests; of executing and receiving titles to property and of executing and receiving acquittances; and of making by the vote of a majority, all necessary bye-laws for the government of said academy, and filling all vacancies that may occur in the board of commissioners.

Sec. 7. And be it further enacted, That David Smith, Jas. T. Wafer, James S. Curray and William Wood, be, and they are hereby appointed additional trustees of the Heard county academy, and that Eli Brewer, Harris Johnson, John Griffin, Greenberry Ottery and A. F. Temples, be, and they are hereby appointed trustees of Bluff Spring academy, in the county of Marion.

Sec. 8. And be it further enacted, That James Polhill and Burwell W. Bracewell, be and they are hereby appointed trustees of the Hawkinsville academy, in addition to those heretofore appointed.

Sec. 9. And be it further enacted, That all rights and immunities herein extended to the Evansville academy, in the county of Morgan, be, and they are hereby extended to the [Illegible Text] hereby incorporated.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it is enacted by authority of same, That Garry Grice, Cornelius McCarty , William Griffin, John W. Poyner, William Ellis, Woodson Hybbard, and Henry J. Williams, be and they are hereby appointed Trustees, they or their successors in office shall be and are hereby, declared to be a body corporate by the name of the Trustees of Pleasant Grove Academy, with the privilege of using a common seal.
