Surnames: Tuggle, Harrison, Holland, Jeffries
Reid McCallister is researching Tuggle and related families who lived
in Jasper County during the period from 1815-1870.
His g-grandmother, Exaline Tuggle (1851-1878) , was born in Jasper County to
Lawson O. and Frances Harrison Tuggle.
The family moved to Arkansas by 1860 and settled finally in White County,
Illinois by 1865.
Lawson's parents were Benjamin and Mary Ann Holland Tuggle.
Benjamin (1804-1864) was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Jeffries Tuggle
who
moved to Jasper County from Greene County about 1815.
It appears that Mary Ann Holland Tuggle (1806-1864) was the daughter of an Isaac
Odum Holland from Virginia and sister to Lawson S Holland who lived in Jasper
County. Mary Ann was orphaned and lived with Lawson Holland until she
married Benjamin Tuggle in Jasper County in 1826. According to the “The
History of White County” published in 1882, both Benjamin and Mary Ann died in
Smithland, Kentucky in 1864.
Frances Harrison Tuggle, born in Jasper County in 1834 was the daughter of
Howell and Nancy Jeffries Harrison.
Would love to hear from anyone that has more information as all he has are the
basic dates from web research. Interested in the Holland family and Isaac
O.Holland. Mary Ann and Benjamin named their first son Lawson O Tuggle
which would have honored her brother Lawson and father Isaac Odum.
