ADAMS - My grandmother, Emma Lee
Adams, may have been born in Jasper County, but she lived in Jones County.
After her death, my grandfather, Green Williamson, needed to get
a court order to allow him sell the crops on the land. I assume the
land was in the name of my grandmother. I have searched deeds in
Jones County, I but have found nothing. I understand that Jones County
was formed from Baldwin County, so I am wondering whether this land was
in that part of Baldwin County that became Jones. I am trying
to find the names of my grandmother's parents. (she was b.1870 --
d.1906) She and my grandfather are buried in the J C Hodge Cemetery
near Gray. Thanks, Louise

BLOUNT
- (African-American) Help
will be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have so far. I
am looking for information on Ida Blount born in 1874 from Clinton, Jones
County, Georgia. Her grandfather is Hilliard Blount born around 1835.
Information on either of these individuals would be great. Who is
Ida's parents (mom & dad). Here is some of the information I
found so far.
1870 Census - Whites, Jones, GA (this is
the Clinton area)
Hilliard Blount is married to Eliza Blount
children listed - Thomas, Georgia, Mary,
Nancy, Henry, James, Willie
-----------
1880 Census - District 299, Jones, GA
Hilliard Blount is married to Eliza Blount
children listed - Nancy, Jim, Willie
grandkids listed - Ida, Mathis, Ebby (this
is the Ida that Im seeking)
-------------
1900 Census - Clinton, Jones, GA
Hilliard is widowed and boarding with a
family named John Smith
----------
1910 Census - Clinton, Jones, GA
Hilliard Blount is widowed and still boarding
with a family named John Smith
Ida (his grandaughter) lived a couple of
houses away
-----------
1910 Census - Clinton, Jones, GA
Ida Blount born 1875
children listed - Bessie, Willie May, &
Sonny Boy
(lived a couple of houses away from Hilliard)
-------
I would like to mention that three of Hilliard's
other kids named their daughter Ida also but these are not the Ida that
Im looking for.
This is what makes it so confusing.
Thomas Blount married Charity and had daughter
Ida born 1899
James Blount married Jennie and had daughter
Ida born 1893
Willie Blount married Clarisy and had daughter
Ida born 1900
All in all, Hilliard had 4 granddaughters
named Ida. The Ida that I'm looking for is the oldest born in 1874.
This is my great grandmother. I don't know who her parents were.
Which of Hilliard's kids? This would answer a lot of questions.
And also, who fathered Ida's kids - Willie May, Bessie, & Sonny Boy?
I know this is a lot of info. I have
been researching this for about 3 years now. Any help in this is
greatly appreciated.

BRADDY/HARRISON - Many of the
Braddy family ancestors lived in Jones County, Georgia from the early 1800's
until some moved into adjacent Jasper Co. in the mid-1870's. The
Sardis Methodist Episcopal Church records, the U.S. Census and Ancestry.com
provided a lot of help in finding some excellent information but there
are still plenty of gaps. I am researching Eli Braddy (B:1818), who
married Elizabeth Jane Fennel in 1839 and later, married Sarah Jane Harrison
(B:1842) in 1867. I believe that Eli Braddy and Sarah J. were the
parents of William E. Braddy, my great grandfather. When Eli died
abt 1874, church records indicate that Sarah and her family left the church
and apparently Jones County. Infomation or direction to more sources
would be most appreciated for William E. Braddy (sometimes spelled Brady)
Sarah Jane Harrison Braddy, and Eli Braddy of Jones County. Since
I plan to visit Jones County within the next six months, coming from Nebraska,
would the Jones County Courthouse be recommended as a good source for research?

BURNETT- I’m looking for the
parents and family of Washington Burnett born in 1808 or 1807 in Jones
County. He received Indian lottery land in what is now Taylor County,
GA in 1827; married Elizabeth Carmichael in 1838 (?); later married Palatiah
Jordan in the 1840’s and had James and Marium before moving to Taylor County.
It appears that a John Burnett and
Mariun Burnett appear on the 1816 tax list. They could be his parents.
Also, “probably” Susan Burnett Bryant was in Jones County about the same
time Washington was and also moved to Taylor county and married a Bryant.
Her death records indicate her parents were from South Carolina.
If Susan is the sister of Washington, then his parents are from South Carolina.
I would appreciate any help on this
as possible. Len Moore 3/13/2010

HARDY (Brown, Ford) -MARY ELIZABETH
Noland was born 28 Dec 1879 in Fairfield,
Freestone Co., TX to Woodard L. Noland and Sarah Suzanna Harrison Noland.
Mary married 30 April 1896 to Gentle Irving Hardy in Anderson Co., TX.
She ran away from him and their two daughters “with another man on a white
horse” in 1914 according to the family Bible her two daughters kept.
She was never seen again by these people. Family lore has it that the man
on the horse was named “Samples.”
SSI records indicate she was born
in 1880. I have other proof she was born in 1879 in Texas.
I now see her in the 1920 and 1930 censuses in Georgia. In 1940 Census,
I have found who I think might be my great’grandmother Mary Noland Hardy
in Bibb and Jones counties, GA. It appears she lived until April
1973 and died in Macon, Bibb Co., GA as Mary Ford. This woman is
buried in the Highview Cemetery, Gray, Jones Co., GA and is buried next
to Henry O. Samples. The tombstone makes one believe she lived to
be 107 years old, but actually, she was about 93 years of age at death.
Are these two women the same
person? Census records state she was born in TX, and parents born
in MS. This I have proven with other records. If you have any
information on the Mary Elizabeth Noland Hardy Brown Ford, please contact
me.
It appears after Henry Samples
died in 1950 she married two times – Mr. Brown and Mr. Ford. I know
nothing about these marriages. I have not found any marriage records
for her in Georgia. I appreciate your help very much.

HASKINS/HOSKINS/DAWSON -
I am searching for the parents of both Marcus Howard Hoskins (Haskins)
and Francis Ann Dawson who were married in Jones County in 1830. Marcus
has a land patent in Chambers county dated 4/15/1837 with adjacent property
owned by a Lemuel G Dawson with a patent date of 4/1/1837. Lemuel owns
several tracts of land and some of the photocopies of paperwork show his
middle name is Gibson. Due to the age of Lemuel, I do not believe this
is the father of Francis, as he is only a few years older than her, but
he is possibly related since Marcus’ property shares 3 borders with Lemuel’s
property and the patent dates are two weeks apart. Lemuel owned property
in other counties in Georgia. US Census records show Marcus was born in
Georgia about 1803-1805 and Francis was born in South Carolina about 1805-1807.
They later moved to Alabama, Mississippi and probably into Texas. My connections
is to descendants who migrated into Oklahoma from Texas and some on to
California during the Dust Bowl years. Moving back in ancestors, I am stuck
at Marcus and Francis getting married in Jones County and no trace before
then. JoAnne Brown

MITCHELL - Warren Anderson
Mitchell of Jones County, Georgia, is my maternal great, great grandfather.
He is my brick wall as far as his regiment and company during the Civil
War. He is a descendant of Henry Mitchell, RS, and Sarah Maderis
Mitchell (there are variant spellings of Sarah's maiden name) of Jones
County, Georgia. According to the Confederate Widow's Pension of
Warren's spouse, Lucinda Christian Mitchell, Warren Anderson Mitchell
was with Georgia troops at Camp Watts, near Notasulga, Alabama. Camp
Watts was also called Camp Number One of Instruction. He died of
pneumonia on November 20, 1862, while on duty in the recruiting office
at Camp Watts. He was returned to his old home in Jones County, Georgia,
and buried there. Some of the information in this pension was given

MITCHELL, James – I have been searching
for my ancestor, James Mitchell (possibly J.W. Mitchell) in Jones County
for some time. He appears in the Hancock County 1820 Census, and
in 1826 his daughter’s wedding announcement is made in Jones County.
I can only conclude that the family moved from Hancock to Jones between
1820 and 1826. He may appear in the 1827 Jones County Georgia Land
Lottery and the 1833 Jones County Gold Lottery. He married Elizabeth
Jordan in 1798 in Oglethrope County. Any information about him or
his daughter Sarah T. Mitchell who married Swepson Taylor and died in Clinton

PRICE, Whitmore. - The earliest documentary
proof of him is his marriage to Sarah SPURLIN 10 Dec 1818 (Georgia Marriages
Index) followed by the 1820 census (Weetamore Price - Corrected on Ancestry.com
to Whitmore) with wife and son. There is no known census information
on them for the 1830 census anywhere and they are in Lawrenceville, Henry
County, Alabama on the 1840 census. There is a Richard PRICE shown
on the 1830 Jones County census - relationship unknown.
There is a possibility that
Whitmore is related to Irvin PRICE; b: abt 1800, who marries Susannah SPURLIN
1826 in this county and is found in Henry County, Alabama next door to
Whitmore later. Irvin/Ervin is noted on the 1830 Houston County census
with wife and two children and it is believed he may have been born in
this area, which was Indian Territory at the time, but may be part of the
Twiggs County family. Additionally, there is a Thomas Price listed
on the 1830 Houston County census who is also recently married with wife
and two children who is also suspected as being a relative of both these
men.
I have posted similar information
on both the Twiggs and Houston county sites.
My connection with Whitmore
is through my paternal grandmother, Norma Ethel PRICE, who was born in
Henry County, Alabama and is where she and my grandfather were married.

SMITH, JOSEPH - I'm looking
for info on my gr gr gr grandfather, Joseph Smith's family. Joseph's name
could possibly be Samuel Joseph Smith, as a son of his, Joseph C. Smith,
has father's name listed on his death certificate as Sam Smith instead
of Joseph Smith. He left Jones Co., Ga. and went to Harris Co., GA.
and then to Macon Co., Al. and Tallapoosa Co., Al. He married a Ann
W. ? I'm assuming in Jones Co., Ga. since he was living there and there
oldest daughter was born there. I found a WILL for a Samuel Smith who had
a son named Samuel Smith and a grandson named Samuel Smith. The grandson
could possibly be my Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith br. bet 1800-1810 and at
one time owned slaves. In this Samuel Smith's WILL, he owned slaves too.
Mother listed on the will as "Elizabeth." Joseph Smith is on the 1830 and
1840 Census for Harris Co., Ga. Just trying to find which Smiths
of Jones Co., GA. are related to my Joseph Smith or Samuel Joseph Smith.
I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank You, Wanda

STALLWORTH – I am searching
for information on parents or siblings of George Joseph Stallworth, born
abt 1846 in Georgia and he was a mulatto. I found a male child listed
on the 1850 Slave Census that fits the description owned by Joseph Stallworth,

STEWART - I am looking for information
concerning a John Stewart (maybe John M. Stewart) who married Mary Hollon
in Jones County in 1827. They later moved to the Pike County area
around Hollonville, GA. We think that John may have gone off to the
Mexican War in 1846 and never returned. He was the father of my great
grandfather Noah Stewart. Hoping to find out more about the Stewarts
in Jones County in early 1800s. Patti.

WHEELER - I am searching for information
on parents or siblings of Allen Obediah Wheeler, born 1807 in Putnam County.
He lived most of his life in Jones County, but so many connected branches
of the family tree are centered in Milledgeville, I feel there must be
some Wheelers there who are closely related.
Family lore has
it that we are kin to General Joseph Wheeler. From his picture and
a picture of my great-grandfather, there HAS to be a connection.

WILLIS - looking for information
on my ancestor, Joel Willis, Sr. He migrated from Craven County,
NC to Jones County. He passed away in Jones in 1822. I found
some information on him on the listing of Churches on this site.
He was a member of the presbytery of the Caney Creek Primitive Baptist
Church in Jones County in 1813. I am wondering if one of the unmarked
graves in that cemetery belongs to him. His wife was Sarah Gwaltney
Willis. Since Joel fought in the Revolutionary War, she was eligible
to participate in the land lottery. I think it was the one in 1827.
I would appreciate any help you can offer.
