"Dreams Come True" After Many A Year. Sweethearts
of Youth Wed Only When They Passed Two-Score and Ten Mark.
The paths of two lives which separated
in Jones county many years ago met again last night at 7 o'clock, when
Justice of the Peace R. F. McCowan performed the ceremony making
G.
T. Southern and Mrs. S.
F. Smith man and wife. Both have passed their fiftieth milestone.
As sweethearts in their youth,
when attending school in the little log school house in Jones county, they
often dreamed of how some day they would wed and cast their lot together.
Fate interfered with there plans and both married and removed to different
sections of the county. Both raised large families and grew to be prominent
in the county. Mr. Southern for a number of years was tax receiver of Jones
county, removing to Macon six years ago. He is now connected with the Massee-Felton
Lumber company. His first wife died several years ago.
Mrs. Smith removed with her
family fifteen years ago from Jones county to Macon. Her husband died and
she raised up her children, all seven of whom are now married. Mr. Southern
has eight children, four of whom are married.
After succeeding in getting
their children away from home, either on visits to friends or among themselves,
the two people returned to their first love and went in search of their
old friend Judge McCowan, early last night. The first knowledge the children
will have of the marriage will be this announcement in The Telegraph this
morning. They will make their home in South Macon.
Both parties are well and favorably
known throughout Jones county and in Macon, and a host of friends of both
will join in wishing them all the joys and pleasures that can come to them.

ELOPERS KNEW ABOUT MACON'S FEELESS
J. P
Judge McKervey's Fame Has Gone Along the
Highways and Byways Bringing Many Into the Matrimonial Fold.
Marrying a couple in a buggy, and
a runaway match at that, was the experience of Judge Hugh McKervey Saturday
afternoon.
The judge, whose fame as a feeless
justice of the peace has traveled far, was busy compounding a prescription
when a buggy stopped in front of McCrary's drug store in East Macon. Red
Rice, whose whole life consists of thre things, going to school in
the morning, jerking soda in the afternoon, and believing Judge McKervey
the best man on earth all the time, and one of the brightest boys on the
east side of the river, saw at once that the couple in the buggy were not
only anxious to get married, but were in a hurry. Fact is, as was later
developed, the young man had slipped away from a farm in Jones county,
and the young lady had slipped away from her parents in Twiggs, and had
come to town to be married.
The judge laid aside his spatula,
tumbled some freshly-rolled pills in a box, gathered his code of Georgia
and went out to the buggy. Then he married Richard D. Stewart, of
Jones county to Miss
Sallie E. Jackson, of Twiggs county, and wished them luck. The newly-weds
drove over to the west side apparently very happy.
