Walker Family Bible

 

 

The Walker Family Bible is believed to have belonged to George Washington Walker (1845 – 1915).  Passed along to his son, Joseph Wheeler “Captain” Walker (1899 – 1994).  Passed along to his son, Clifford Walker, 2/2000 after the death of Liller Lee Walker (wife of Captain). There is no legible copyright date in the Bible.  The exact age of the Bible is unknown.   Edna Walker Peck (b. 1917), oldest child of Joseph Walker “Captain” Walker and Liller Lee Walker, remembers the Bible being in her father’s possession all of her life.  She also recalls that he spoke about it being his father’s Bible.

 

There are four  (4) distinct handwritings in this Bible.  The first script, which is the majority of the entries, is an older style script, with much flair, and is believed by most family members to be that of George Washington Walker (1845 –1915).  The second script has less flair and is believed by most family members to be that of Joseph Wheeler “Captain Walker.  The third script is similar to the second script and was added as an afterthought and not written at the time that the event actually occurred. The writer of this script is unknown. The fourth script was added probably by one of the children of Joseph Wheeler “Captain” Walker.

G. W. Walker Sr. and Rachle Arnand Stargel was married August 24th, 1865. 

(Note:  Spelling may be incorrect.  Probably Rachel Amanda.)

 

G. W. Walker Sr. and Nancy Jarrard was married December 1877.

West Walker was born August 30, 1865.

John Stargel Walker was born January 1, 1868.

Sarah Ann Walker was born January 23, 1870.

George W. Walker, Jr. was born January 24, 1872.

Rachel A. Walker was born April 6, 1877.

Martha L. Walker was born January 29, 1880.

Joseph S. Walker was born October 31, 1881.

Charles G. Walker was born January 29, 1884.

G. W. Walker Sr. was born April 4, 1845.

Rachel Amanda Walker was born November 28, 1841.

Mammie Walker was born May 26, 1895.

Joseph Whealer was born October 1, 1899.  

(NOTE:  Spelling of middle name is probably incorrect.  Generally accepted that the spelling is “Wheeler”.)

Fannie Walker was born September 3, 1902.

Alexander Stevens Walker was born March 30, 1904.

Buster Brown Walker was born January 6, 1905.

Wiley W. Walker was born July 17, 1908.

Rachel Amanda Walker died April 8, 1877.

Nancy Walker died July 12, 1886.

Martha L. Walker died October 5, 1897.
