Our folks is ???? so much this morning I hard know what to write, but can say that all is well and ???????? James Burnsides is very attentive and is a good clerk. I could not have been better suited but my stock is running down and I do not know where to get more goods. I can get more to sell at the same price if I had a good stock I could do well for goods is getting scarce through the country and I find no difficulty no to sell for cash. I like that kind of business.
Jack, I understand from a friend that you have been called on from time to time by your Capt. to give your office(?) to your brother. I am surprised a Capt. Hamiliton. I have done a great deal to appease (?) him and the company and then for offer the company ???? you as it did then for him to urge for you to give up your office(?) for selfish motives. I say again to you to hold on to your office and do the very best you can and you will soon come to do as well as any in the company for I know that you can perform every duty that belongs to your office. So if he says any more to you about it tell him that you will swap with him and you will not do any ???? Never get your consent to go down but to apply yourself that you can attend to any duty placed upon you.
So while you are seargent ??? the way open before you to receive the office of captain, colonel and even the general office. We do not know how long this war will last and if you conduct yourself well from the start you have get you may be promoted to a much higher office. Write often as you can and ???? ????? you ???? up.
Yours respectfully,
A.G. Wimpy
