Dear Jack,
I rote to you by yesterday mail in answer to yours of the 5th. I have nothing new to rite. Your uncle left yesterday morning from Atlanta. He is bringing the team home to work in the buggy. Emily is with me, Bro. Leach is here to night. He arrived last night so you ?? be here until this morning at least.
I have made a small head tick for you knowing you will find it very convenient. I have fixed a place for a pillow. You must fill the tick first an then fill the pillow. If you cant get straw use dry leaves, sun it often dont put it on the ground. If you do it will get damp. It will not take up more room than a blanket. You can throw the straw out when you move from one point to another. When you stop, fill it up again. It will not make any more for you to carry as you can do with one blanket less. I send you a small sheet, 2 handkerchiefs, the Advocate and an apron to wear if you have to wash or help cook. I will send these things by ? Helly tomorrow if he can take them. I will not know if he can until it would be to late to rite by ???, so if he dont take them, I will send them first chance. We wanted to send a box to your Co. if we could a got a wagon to took it down. We could a sent it by your uncle if we had had it ready. We want to send pickles, catchup, dry fruit, an all such articles.
We hear that there is a great deal of sickness about Richmond. Jack, do take care of your self. If you use fresh meat have it salted well, use onions with it an a great deal of red pepper. Have your victuals cooked well, keep our feet warm an dry. Hadnt your uncle best get you a pair of good shoes made an send to you. Mother is making you and Frank Mayes some ???? drawers. I have planned put away for you some shirts for winter. Dry goods an groceries are getting very scarce in this place. Sarah says she has some ???? to send you if she had any way to send them. Mary says she will rite when you rite to her. Fanny wants to know which ??? you want her to take care of , says she is willing to try and take care of her but not for you to come home an take a notion an marry. That would be as bad on us as it was for you to go to war.

Wednesday morning - All is well. We still have warm, dry weather. This is a beautiful morning. Your uncle Henly Wimpy was down yesterday. Your aunt Betsy is not well. He said he would be glad to see you.
