#75Dahlonega, June the 2 (1861)
Dear Jack,
It is now ten days since I rote to you. You must not think hard of me for not riting oftener. I think I have rote to you every 8 or 10 days ever since you left home except twice. Fanny an Sally rec. a letter from you last Saturday. We were all very glad to hear from you.
I havent much news to rite. The people all seem busy especially the farmers. Every thing grows finely. We have good seasons. I have a good garden, an I think you must come home an help me drink oakra soup as none of the children lik it an your uncle is seldom here at dinner.
Will (?) Courtney is boarding with us. Mr Mitchel took him to board but hadnt room. He is a good deal of company to us. Mother an sister Betsy came over last Saturday an left this morning. Mother says she often thinks of you. Says you must be a good boy.
You have lost Miss Ruth Kelly(?). She was married last night at the Mitchels to T. Gibson. They left this morning for her sisters in Texas. He will go on from there an join the army at Corinth.
The friends are generally well. The children send much love to you. Say they will answer your letter in a few days. You must excuse this letter. It is raining this evening. My paper is so bad I cant rite. I hope you ar well. From some cause, I know not what, I feel very uneasy about you
Parker leaves next Friday. I will rite again by him an send you some things if he can take them. Your uncle says you must excuse him for not riting. He never had so much to do.
