Letter from Lewis Sartain to his wife Martha A. Sartain and their children
June 30th, 1862

Richmond Va. June Monday the 30 1862

Martha yesterday was Sunday and I rote a letter and I did not rite a nuf and I thot I wold rite sum more this morning. The regment all went of [off] yesterday but the sich [sick] and recrutes a bout 9 oclock and I hurd firing yesterday eavning and I hant hurd from them sence and this is 7 oclock Monday morning. Martha tel James and Friday [?] Deen that Henry and Japes [ James?] Deen is well and looks well to what I expected. I want you to rite the prises of things in the contry. We have prare meting her [here] every nite when the compney is her. Martha I want to no hoo stays with you. Rite whather you have sold more corn or not. I want you to devide but I want you to keep a nuf to fur your self and the children.

Martha this is Monday morning and I feel well and harty. I shaved yesterday and I wiped on one of them clean towel you had washed for me. Martha rite to me as soon as you get this letter so nothen more. Yours in love
