Edward Hawks to James S. Dudley

This indenture made this 23rd day of February 1856 between Edward Hawks of the county of Oglethorpe of the one part and James S. Dudley of Madison County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Edward Hawks for and in consideration of the sum of $224.00 to him in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, and sold and conveyed unto the said James S. Dudley, his heir and assigns, all that tract or parcel of land situate, lying and being in the county of Madison, containing 100 acres more or less and bounded as follows by lands of Dudley, Collins & Allen Porterfield, commencing at a pine corner on Sorrells & Porterfield's line, thence S 36 chains to a small red oak on Collins line, thence E 35 chains to a red oak on Collins line, thence N 1 1/2 E 36 Ch & 50 L to a stake on Dudley's line, thence W 36 chains to the beginning corner.  To have and to hold said tract or parcel of land unto him the said James S. Dudley his heirs and assigns together with all and singular the rights, members and appurtenances thereof to the same in any manner belonging to his and their own proper use, benefit & behoof forever in fee simple.  And the said Edward Hawks for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators the said bargained premesis unto the said James S. Dudley his heirs and assigns will warrant and forever defend the rights, title [cut off] and against the claim of all other persons whatever.  In witnesses whereof the said Edward Hawks hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written.
