Obituary of Tennie Stewart Bolton as written on page 3 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 4 Feb 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. A. R. Bolton, of Sale City, died Friday, January 28, at Vereen Memorial Hospital in Moultrie following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 29, at 3:30 o'clock at Antioch Methodist Church at Pebble City. Officiating was the Rev. William McClellan, pastor of Sale City Methodist Church assisted by Rev. Louis Spivey and Rev. N. H. Williams, both of Camilla. Ladies from the Missionary Society groups of Cotton, Sale City and Hartsfield, formed a choir to sing comforting hymns. Interment took place at Akridge Cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Johnny Hynote, Otis King, George Jones, Hiram Caton, Ralph Eubanks, J. I. Eubanks, Charlie Mock, Tommy Beasley. Honorary pallbearers were Brady Beasely, Jim Mock, Alton Akridge, George Stokes, Carl Akridge, Raymond Muggridge, Mack Clark, John Akridge, Herman Green, J. B. Green, T. K. Brock, Isaac Marchant and Paul Branch. Mrs. Bolton was born August 28, 1881, in Shellman, Ga., the daughter of the late Rev. George Hill Stewart and Mary Elizabeth Fretwell Stewart. She spent most of her life here in Mitchell County where she was married fifty-five years ago to A. R. Bolton who survives her in addition to two daughters, Mrs. Julius Palmer and Mrs. Harvey Meinders, both of Camilla; two sons, F. H. Bolton of Perry, Fla.., and G. A. Bolton of Albany, Ga; two brothers, R. T. Stewart of Orland, Fla., Allen Stewart of Albany, Ga; two sisters, Mrs. A. M. Rivers of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. J. W. Weeks of Gainesville, Ga. In addition twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

Obituary of Mattie Davis Radford as written on page 5 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 18 Feb 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Mattie Davis Radford, 72, wife of H. H. Radford, died at her home in Newton late Thursday, February 10. She suffered a heart attack and died unexpectedly. Funeral services took place Saturday, February 12, at 11:00 A. M. at Pleasant Hill Church in Mitchell County. Rev. Bert Newsome, of Newton, and the Rev. George E. Robertson, Jr., of Pleasant Hill officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery and Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge. Pall bearers were nephews and included Hoke S. Davis, J. B. Green, Herman Green, Earl Radford, Albert Radford, Roscoe Radford, A. H. Davis and Gene Cowan. Mrs. Radford was the daughter of the late D. B. Davis and Betty Jones Davis of Pleasant Hill community where she was born and reared. She was married 53 years ago to H. H. Radford, of Newton, who survives her in addition to one sister, Mrs. J. H. Green, of Hartsfield.

Obituary of Albert G. McElveen as written on page 10 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 18 Feb 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Older residents of Camilla and Mitchell County were grieved at news of the death of Albert G. McElveen which occurred Wednesday, February 9, at 11:10 o'clock at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville after an illness of two days. He was 85 years of age and is survived by one sister, Mrs. James B. Burch of Thomasville. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at his residence at 703 Gordon Avenue. Rev. Olin Cooper, pastor of Thomasville's First Methodist Church, and Rev. George Shirley, Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment was in Laurel Hill cemetery in Thomasville. Vasser Thompson, of Camilla, served as one of the honorary pallbearers while Crockett Twitty, of Pelham, went down to serve as active pallbearer. Mr. McElveen was the son of the late Dr. Robert McElveen, eminent pioneer doctor and surgeon of the Thomasville area. His mother was the former Sarah Louise Hayes, who after the death of her first husband was married to the late Dr. William Twitty, of Camilla. Mr. McElveen was born Feb. 26, 1809, on his father's plantation "Cairo" near the present city of Cairo.

Obituary of Annie Laurie Collins Sawyer as written on page 5 of "The Camilla Enterprise" date 1 Apr 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Relatives and many friends have learned with sorrow of the death of Mrs. Annie Laurie Collins Sawyer, native of Camilla, wife of George P. Sawyer of Jacksonville, Fla., and sister of Gordon Collins of this place. Mrs. Sawyer died in a hospital in Jacksonville Sunday, March 14, following a several weeks illness. Funeral services took place in Hardage and Sons Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Vance Gordon, pastor of Murray Hill Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, and Rev. Don Davis of Panama City, Fla. Pallbearers were N. H. Sandifer, F. M. Perry, L. B. Harrell, W. H. Howell, B. K. Godwin, J. H. Vinyard. Interment was in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Sawyer, the former Miss Annie Laurie Collins, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Collins and was born December 8, 1896, and reared in Camilla. Soon after graduation from High School here she was married April 22, 1918, to George P. Sawyer. They moved from Camilla to Macon and later to Jacksonville where they have lived for 34 years. She was a member of the Murray Hill Presbyterian Church and of order of the Eastern Star. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Jesse C. Gram of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, George P. Sawyer, Jr. of Alexandria, Va., and Richard F. Sawyer of Jacksonville and four grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Julia Collins of Alexandria, Va.; Mrs. Marie Phillips of Jacksonville; and four brothers, Paul H. Collins of Windsor, Ariz; James H. Collins and Gordon Collins of Camilla, and Milton P. Collins of Alexandria, Va. Mrs. Lily Sharp of this place, is an aunt of Mrs. Sawyer.

Obituary of Effie Beall as written of page 9 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 1 Apr 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services took place Saturday, March 26, at the chapel of Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla for Miss Effie Beall who died Thursday, March 24, at the State Hospital in Milledgeville where she had been for about forty years. She was 70 years of age, born in Spalding County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Beall. Rev. W. A. Wentworth officiated at the last rites and interment took place afterwards in Oakview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Gray, Walter Eidson, Jim Lawrence, Grady Beall, Garner Beall, James Wiley Palmer. Survivors include her sisters, Mrs. John Gray of Camilla and Mrs. Ludie Beall of Milledgeville; and four brothers, D. W. Beall, A. R. Beall, G. E. Beall and R. R. Beall, all of Camilla.

Obituary of Ella Jane Lewis Rossman as written on page 3 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 8 Apr 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie for Mrs. W. T. Rossman, Sr., 78, mother of Mrs. W. L. Bennett of this place, following a long illness. Mrs. Bennett has the deep sympathy of friends in her bereavement. Officiating at the services were Rev. R. L. Forbis, Dr. John W. Good and the Rev. Marion G. Bradwell. Interment was in Moultrie cemetery. A native of Newton County Mrs. Rossman was the former Miss Ella Jane Lewis and had lived most of her life in Colquitt County. Survivors include her husband, W. T. Rossman Sr.; a brother, E. H. Lewis of Covington; four sons, J. G., W. T., Jr. and C. G. and Mervin of Moultrie and Dr. L. C. Rossman of Albany; five daughters, Mrs. J. D. Calhoun of Moultrie, Mrs. W. L. Bennett of Camilla, Mrs. L. B. Maddox of Cordele, Mrs. L. S. Roberts of Leesburg, Fla., Miss Emma Rossman of Tavares, Fla.; a nephew, E. G. Lewis of Albany and 16 grandchildren.

Obituary of Durwood B. Holton as written on page 4 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 22 Apr 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Friends are sympathizing with Mrs. Sadie Holton (J. H.) Phillips and her sister, Mrs. Julia Dollar, both of 53 East Stevens Street, in the death of their brother, Durwood B. Holton, age 85, which occurred Tuesday, April 12, at his home on 622 South Miami Avenue in Miami. He moved to Miami from Camilla 32 years ago. He was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church there and held membership in the Masons for 64 years. A brother, S. H. Holton, of Albany, survives in addition to his five sons and one daughter, all of Florida.

Obituary of James Albert Thornton as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 11 Jul 1947. Camilla, Georgia James Albert Thornton, ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Thornton, who lived near Hopeful, was accidentally killed early Wednesday, 9 Jul 1947, morning with a 22 rifle by his ten year old first cousin with whom he was in the habit of playing frequently, Tim Thornton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thornton. Verdict of a coroner's jury, summoned following news of the death, rendered a verdict that "James Albert Thornton came to his death by accident from a 22 rifle", according to Mitchell County Coroner W. C. (Shine) Allen. Mr. Allen reported that the two little boys were left alone at the Thornton residence playing with one another early Wednesday morning while other members of the family left on various duties. Mrs. Thornton was the first to return to the house and told Coroner Allen she discovered Tim on the front steps with the fatally injured boy lying on the steps with feet toward the ground. A trail of blood was found from the living room of the residence to the front porch steps, the accident evidently having taken place in the living room and the child dragging the body of his cousin outside in frantic effort to do something for him, Coroner Allen reported. He stated the accident happened about nine o'clock Wednesday morning.

Obituary of Bessie Mae Eidson Burford as written on page 6 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 22 Apr 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Bessie Mae Eidson Burford, 73, wife of the late A. G. Burford, died Tuesday afternoon, April 19, at five o'clock at Mitchell County Hospital. Funeral services took place Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. at Branchville Church with burial afterwards in the church cemetery. Rev. Wentworth, assisted by Rev. W. A. Sellars, was in charge of services. Pallbearers were Ralph Fitzgerald, E. C. Ross, Johnny Pitts, Millard Johnson, John Gray, Wilson Joiner. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Buford was born December 4, 1892, in Fulton County, the daughter of the late Carolyn Sims Eidson and Mathis Eidson. She moved to Mitchell County from Jackson, Ga., in 1918, and had been married fifty years when her husband, who sold dairy products in Camilla a number of years, preceded her in death six years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Irma Worsham of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; two sons, W. C. Burford of Perry, Fla. and Oliver Burford of Camilla; 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Obituary of Mayne Davis Mitchell as written on page 10 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 20 May 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Many Camilla friends were grieved by news of the death of Mrs. Mayne Davis Mitchell of Thomasville, wife of the late Taylor H. Mitchell and sister of Mrs. G. B. Baggs Sr. of this place which took place at 2;30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Archbold Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since the middle of last week when she was rushed to the hospital after becoming acutely ill. Funeral services took place at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at her late residence conducted by her pastor of many years, the Rev. T. F. Callaway, retired pastor of the First Baptist Church.

Obituary of David Vassar Thompson as written on page1 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 13 May 1955. Camilla, Georgia. David Vassar Thompson, 74, prominent retired Camilla business man, died at Mitchell County Hospital at 2:10 o'clock Monday morning following an illness of less than a week. A prominent and leading citizen of Camilla for a long number of years, his death comes as a sad shock to numerous business and personal friends. Funeral services took place Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock from the home on Broad Street, conducted by the Rev. Chas. C. Duncan, pastor of the First Baptist Church, who was assisted by the Rev. Lewis M. Spivey, the Rev. T. C. Bailey and the Rev. N. H. Williams. The floral pieces were unusual in their number and beauty. Pall bearers included William H. Butler, Jim B. Butler Jr., Joe W. Butler, C. M. Stripling, James Holton, Harry Holton, Robert Butler and Joe Spence. Honorary pall bearers were P. C. Cullens, John Monaghan, W. C. Adams, Dr. J. L. Gray, Bob Taylor, Jim Wood, E. J. Vann Jr., John Herring, Dan Palmer, B. L. Holton, G. B. Baggs Jr., W. F. Cullens, P. E. Bailey, A. R. Roles, C. F. Brimberry, Brazier Holton, Bennett Lewis, Sam Levine, G. C. Burson, R. K. Wingate Jr., Lamar Wingate, Jas. G. Davis, Tom Barrow, Crockett Twitty, Fred Hollis Sr. and Roy Salter. Interment was in the family plot in Oakview cemetery. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Thompson was born in Camilla July 17, 1881 and was the son of the late David W. Thompson and Laura Butler Thompson. He was the grandson of the late Josiah B. Butler, one of Camilla's first citizens and builders. He spent his entire life in Camilla with the exception of a few years residence in Pelham. He was happily married in November 1909 to Miss Grace Brimberry, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Brimberry. For many years he handled farming operations here and for more than thirty years he was consignee for the Texas Oil Co. He retired from active business two years ago and since that time he and his wife had traveled extensively. Mr. Thompson had been a member fo the First Baptist Church since early childhood. He was prominent in many civic and community activities, having served as member of the City Council for seven years. He was a member of Gov. Marvin Griffin's staff. Public spirited, kindly and especially warm hearted to those in need, he lived a full and rewarding life. Surviving with his wife, is their daughter, Mrs. J. H. McIlvaine and grandson, Jimmy McIlvaine, both of Camilla, and his sister, Mrs. R. C. Stevens of St. Augustine, Fla. Among the relatives here from a distance for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Stephens of St. Augustine, Fla.; George P. Bulter of Jacksonville, Fla.; Mrs. H. E. Herrington of Atlanta; and Hamilton Hill of Newnan.

Obituary of Isaac A. Hatcher as written on page 4 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 3 Jun 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for Isaac A. Hatcher, 71, who died Monday at his home in Pelham after an extended illness. The Rev. E. L. Lewis and Rev. T. H. Wilder officiated at the last rites and interment took place at the cemetery of the church where he held membership and served as deacon. He had farmed most of his life, spending a few years at pecan farm in Lee county, the Pineland Plantation in Baker county. He is survived by his wife, the former Effie Barwick; two sons, Eddie Hatcher of Leary and L. H. Hatcher of Albany; five daughters, Mrs. J. L. Wingate of Leesburg, Mrs. Julian F. Shiver of Sylvester, Mrs. Clinton Phillips of Ellaville, and Mrs. E. R. Renfroe of Quitman, Mrs. Charllie Burch of Elmodel; six brothers, A. N., J. D., F. E., J. M. and W. A. Hatcher of Albany, and C. C. Hatcher of Doerun, a sister, Mrs. P.L. York of Albany.

Obituary of Stephen C. Boynton as written on page 12 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 29 Jul 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Stephen C. Boynton, 93, beloved long time resident of Flint community and one of Mitchell County's oldest citizens, died in Americus City Hospital Tuesday, July 26 at 3:45 o'clock. Mr. Boynton's death followed a long period of ill health. He had been in Americus since last November at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jasper Groover, and entered the hospital a week ago. News of his death brought sorrow to hosts of friends throughout this county and section. Funeral services took place Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Flint Baptist Church where Mr. Boynton had been a faithful member for more than a half century. Services were conducted by the Rev. C. L. Robinson of Baconton. Interment was in Oakview cemetery. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Boynton was born in Green Pond, S. C., July 18, 1862. He moved to Mitchell County when a boy of thirteen and had lived here for eighty years. He had engaged in the farming profession for a long number of years until his retirement due to ill health. He was united in marriage to the former Miss Martha Collins who survives him after a fifty-seven years union. His eldest son, the Rev. W. S. Boynton, preceded him in death two months ago. Surviving are his wife, one son, C. S. Boynton of Sylvester, ten daughters, Mrs. D. W. Adams of Auburndale, Fla.; Mrs. John Johnson of Orum, N. C.; Mrs. A. B. Strand of Danridge, Tenn.; Mrs. S. B. Sneaden of Wilmington, N. C.; Mrs. Eddie Stewart of Atlanta; Mrs. Jasper Groover of Americus; Miss Elsie Boynton of Knoxville, Tenn.; Mrs Ray Lee of Concord, Ga.; Mrs. Bill Jones of Knoxville, Tenn.; and Mrs. Jack Dempsey of Memphis, Tenn.; also 32 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Obituary of Paul A. Branch as written on pages 1 and 6 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 5 Aug 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Death claimed one of Mitchell County's most prominent citizens Sunday evening when Paul A. Branch, sixty-four year old businessman and farmer, a former county tax collector and father of Mitchell County's Clerk of the Courts James H. Branch, died at his home in Sale City. He had been in ill health for the past year or more. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock at the residence. The Rev. William H. McClellan, assisted by the Rev. N. H. Williams and the Rev. J. B. Gresham, officiated. Interment was in Oakview Cemetery in Camilla. Serving as pallbearers were Raymond Muggridge, Jr., E. J. Vann, III, Dr. Clyde Brock, E. B. Beasley, Otis L. King, N. N. Marchant, Frank Jones, A. R. Baggs, Drewry Ledbetter, Sr., and W. A. West. Survivors in addition to his wife include one son, James H. Branch of Camilla; two daughters, Mrs. John L. Goldschmeding of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. Mary Armstrong of Dallas, Tx.; five brothers, James A. Branch of Atlanta; W. W. Branch of Adel; W. H. Branch of Valdosta; E. H. Branch of Lake City, Fla.; Joe Branch of Sale City; three grandchildren, Alex Branch of Camilla, Sally and John Goldschmeding of Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Branch was born in Pelham, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Horton Branch. The family later moved to the Branch home place near Sale City on the Moultrie highway. In early manhood he was united in marriage with the former Miss Sara Maxwell of Amsterdam, Ga. Mr. Branch served several terms as a County Commissioner and was Mitchell County Tax Collector from 1931 to 1936. He was a member of the Sale City Methodist Church.

Obituary of Martha Ann Chance Shirah as written on page 7 of "The Camilla Enterprise" newspaper dated 5 Aug 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Martha Ann Chance Shirah, widow of the late G. W. Shirah, Sr., who preceded her in death twenty-nine years ago, died Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd Taylor, in the Pine Bluff community. Funeral services were held yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at four o'clock at the Hopeful Baptist Church with interment afterwards in the Hopeful cemetery. Officiating at the last rites was the Rev. G. T. Hunt of Fla., a former pastor of Mrs. Shirah and long time friend. Grandsons served as pallbearers and they were Charles Edward Shirah, G. E. Shirah, Clifford Shirah, Lamar Shirah, Carl Shirah, Jr., J. F. Harmon, Jr. Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Shirah was born June 20, 1870, the daughter of the late Frank and Kissy Palmer Chance. She was born and reared in Mitchell County and spent her entire life here where she and her late husband reared a large family of children. She was a member of the Mr. Zion Baptist Church. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Floyd Taylor, with whom she made her home, Mrs. Carl Harmon and Mrs. Dewitt Cain, both of California, Mrs. Ralph Jackson of Tifton and Mrs. J. B. Maples of Camilla; four sons, G. W. Shirah, Jr., J. E. Shirah, both of Camilla, C. S. Shirah of Pelham, and Carl Shirah of Bainbridge; two half-brothers, Z. H. Sellars and William Shirah, both of Moultrie; thirty-nine grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Obituary of Alpha Godwin Burnum as written on page 6 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 26 Aug 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Calvin Baggs, Sr. and Mrs. J. L. Holt, both of Camilla, have the sympathy of friends in the death of their mother, Mrs. E. L. Burnum, which occurred Sunday, August 21, at her home near Climax, Ga. Funeral services took place Monday, August 22, at four o'clock at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Rev. J. L. Hand and Rev. Clarence Nobles officiated. Pallbearers were Charlie Faircloth, Joe Franklin Faircloth, Render Keaton, Hilton Baggs, Calvin Baggs, Jr. and Lenward Cross. Interment was at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Mrs. Burnum was a lifetime resident of Climax and Decatur county. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Godwin, of Decatur county. She was 69 years old, having been born January 8, 1885. Tommy Godwin of _______ was a brother of Mrs. Burnum. Another brother surviving is George Godwin of Cairo. Two sisters surviving are Mrs. G. Gore of Dover, Fla., and Mrs. Nora Harrell of Mississippi. Mrs. Burnum is survived by one son, Paul Burnum of Climax, in addition to five daughters including Mrs. Baggs and Mrs. Holt, and Mrs. J. T. _____ of Moultrie, Ga: Mrs. ___ Nesmith of Lakeland, Fla; and Mrs. John A. Ferrence of Whigham.

Obituary of Arkie Bennett Butler as written on page 6 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 30 Sep 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Camilla lost one of its pioneer women residents when Mrs. Hardy Pendleton Butler, Sr. died at the age of 79 Monday morning at Mitchell County Hospital where she had spent the past few weeks in critical condition following a stroke. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence with Rev. Louis Spivey, pastor of Camilla Methodist Church, officiating and being assisted by Rev. N. H. Williams. Interment followed in Oakview Cemetery by the side of her husband who had died back in 1916. Serving as pallbearers were Bill Bennett, Alvin Wight of Cairo, W. B. Wight of Albany, Dr. Clyde Stevenson, Jr., Bennett Lewis, Edwin Rackley, Sr. Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Butler, the former Miss Arkie Bennett, had spent her entire life in Mitchell County. She was born seventy-nine years ago, the daughter of the late W. L. Bennett and Parmelia Adams Bennett, on the old Bennett home place near town where Mr. and Mrs. Dan Palmer, Jr. now farm and make their home. After her marriage to Mr. Butler she went to live on the Butler place near town on the Hopeful road and continued to live there and raise her family of children after his death many years ago. She was a lifelong member of Camilla Methodist Church and was one of its most devoted members until infirmities of old age kept her from taking any active part in the life of the community. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Eloise B. McDonald of Camilla, Miss Gussie Butler of Camilla and Ft. Gaines, Ga., Mrs. C. E. Byrd of Darlington, S. C.; three sons, Robert Butler of Camilla, H. P. Butler, Jr. of Headland, Ala., and Bennett Butler of High Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren, Butler McDonald of Camilla, Miss Betty Byrd of Darlington, S. C., Ann Pendleton Butler of Headland, Ala., and Jimmy Butler of High Springs, Fla. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Mrs. T. R. Bennett of Atlanta.

Marshall, of Camilla, died suddenly early Wednesday morning at his home in Americus following a heart attack. Funeral services were held yesterday, Thursday, at 11 A. M. in Americus. Besides his sister here he is survived by his wife, the former Miss Ann Bailey; son, B. L. Wood Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Mrs. Frank Butler of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, T. W. Wood of Chipley, Fla.; another sister, Mrs. Joe E. Hollingsworth of Miami, Fla.

Obituary of Dr. Robert Peacock Jackson as written on page 1 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 18 Nov 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, Thursday, at 3:so o'clock at the residence in Baconton for Dr. Robert Peacock Jackson, Sr., 86 year old prominent Baconton resident who died Tuesday evening at his residence following a lengthy illness. The Rev. N. H. Williams, of Camilla, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. J. B. Gresham, of Camilla. Interment followed in Mt. Enon cemetery at Baconton. Nephews served as pallbearers and an honorary escort was formed by the Board of Stewards and Trustees of the Baconton Methodist Church and directors and officials of the Mitchell County Electric Membership Corporation. Dr. Jackson was born on Nov. 20, 1868, the son of the late Virginia Peacock Jackson and Greene Smiley Jackson, pioneer citizens of Baconton. Dr. Jackson attended college in Cuthbert and was a graduate of the Atlanta Dental College. He practiced dentistry from 1892 to 1895 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, then returned to Baconton where he practiced for 10 years. He then entered into the mercantile business and was engaged in farming. He was an outstanding leader in civic and religious affairs of the community. He was a charter member of the City Council when Baconton first was organized and at the time of his death was an honorary member. He was a member of the Baconton Board of Education for 25 years, a member of the Baconton Methodist Church and the board of stewards and taught Sunday School for many years. He also was past president of the Bank of Baconton, and one of the organizers of the Mitchell County Electric Membership Corporation. Before his retirement he was secretary-treasurer of the organization and at the time of death was serving on the board. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Lena Bowles of Baconton; three daughters, Mrs. John R. Cole of Baconton, Mrs. W. E. Davis of Boston, Mrs. M. H. Brown of Macon; two sons, R. P. Jackson Jr. of Baconton, and Jesse Jackson of Quitman; two sisters, Mrs. Lilla J. Clark of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Flora J. Batey of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, J. V. Jackson of Camilla and 11 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Obituary of Hattie Belle Wood Marshall as written on page 6 of "The Camilla Enterprise" newspaper dated 2 Dec 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. R. M. Marshall, prominent and beloved Camilla matron, died unexpectedly at an early hour Wednesday morning, November 30, in Hollywood Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, shortly after reaching Hollywood to spend the winter months with her sister, Mrs. Joe H. Hollingsworth. The Hollingsworth family had come to Camilla last weekend to be with Mr. and Mrs. Marshall for Thanksgiving and other members of family had joined them for a pleasant weekend. The Marshalls returned to Hollywood with the Hollingsworths, reaching there Tuesday. Mrs. Marshall complained of being ill about midnight and was carried to the hospital where she died several hours later. Funeral services will be held this morning (Friday) at 10:30 o'clock a the Camilla Methodist Church where she was a member. The pastor, Rev. Louis Spivey, will officiate, and Bramlett Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Marshall was the former Miss Belle Wood, daughter of the late James G. and Annie Whitworth Wood. She was born in Tennessee and moved to Camilla with her parents as a small child. February 12, 1878. She would have celebrated her 78th birthday very soon. Mrs. Marshall was first married to the late Joe B. Wilson who lived only a short while after their marriage and she was later married to Mr. Marshall with whom she spent many long and happy years. To this latter union was born two children, a son, Wood Marshall, and a daughter, Mrs. Dude Hill, who survive her along with Mr. Marshall and one sister, Mrs. Joe Hollingsworth of Hollywood, Fla., and one brother, Tom W. Wood of Chipley, Fla. Two grandchildren also survive.

Obituary of Clifford Underwood Davis as written on page 10 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 2 Dec 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Clifford Davis, wife of the late Tom B. Davis, and who made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Cliff Bostick, in Hopeful, died Friday, November 25, at the Howard Hospital in Pelham. She was seventy-seven years old. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Hopeful Baptist Church. Rev. B. T. Barksdale officiated assisted by Rev. W. H. Rittenhouse, Sr. and Rev. Alvin Bush. Serving as pallbearers were Alton Cross, Delma Lee, James Davis, Harrell Rerick, Charles Lodge, Billy Davis. Braswell Funeral Home of Pelham was in charge of arrangements. Interment followed in Hopeful cemetery. Mrs. Davis was born and reared in Wilkerson county. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Cliff Bostick of Camilla, Mrs. Casey Adams of Pelham, Mrs. C. W. Harrell of Climax, Mrs. Jim Thompson and Mrs. Ed Treat, both of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one son, T. E. Davis of Climax; one sister, Mrs. Nannie Davis of Bainbridge; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Obituary of Nannie Griffin Wynn as written on page 10 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 2 Dec 1955. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Nannie G. Wynn, of Pelham, died at her home there on Tuesday, November 22, at the age of 84. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pelham where funeral services took place on Thanksgiving morning at 10:30 o'clock. Interment was in Macedonia cemetery. Officiating at funeral services was the Rev. T. M. Underwood, Jr. Pallbearers were Davis Wynn, Maurice Wynn, A. J. Cook, Claude Dean, Ralph Griffin and Howard Griffin. Braswell Funeral Home of Pelham was in charge of arrangements. She is survived by one son, W. R. Wynn of Pelham; two daughters, Mrs. H. L. Parker and Mrs. F. B. Bishop, both of Pelham; three brothers, Dave and Clyde Griffin, both of Thomasville and Horton Griffin.

Obituary of Katie West Hays as written on page 2 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 13 Jan 1956. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services were held yesterday (Thursday) morning at eleven o'clock at the Hopeful Baptist Church for Mrs. Luther H. Hays, Sr., prominent native of Mitchell County, who died at 5:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Mitchell County Hospital where she was carried about ten days ago following a stroke. She had been in failing health the last year or two but was active for her 76 years. She had spent the past year or more with her daughter, Mrs. Brady Beasley, in Sale City. The pastor, the Rev. W. H. Rittenhouse, Sr., conducted the services and was assisted by the Rev. P. J. Keadle of Camilla and the Rev. J. B. Lumpkin of Howard, Ga.. The seven sons of the deceased served as pallbearers. Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hays, whose husband preceded her in death some years ago, was the former Katie West, daughter of the late William Morgan and Betty Faircloth West. She was born in Mitchell County on October 29, 1879, and spent her entire life here. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. E. B. Beasley of Sale City, Mrs. Horace W. Bates of Albany, Oregon, Mrs. Ernest C. Jones of Camilla, Mrs. E. T. Lowery of Atlanta, and Mrs. Bruce Connell of West Palm Beach, Fla., seven sons, C. E. Hays and C. A. Hays, both of West Palm Beach, Fla., Lewis Hays of Akron, Ohio, Paul Hays of Rt. 1 Baconton, Henry W. Hays of Albany, L. H. Hays, Jr. of Camilla and William J. Hays of Tifton; four brothers, Emory West of Macon, Mack L. West of Dothan, Ala., Byron West and Henry West, both of Cairo; four sisters, Mrs. Mamie Hays of Camilla, Mrs. Lena Ward and Mrs. Mittie Chastain, both of Thomasville, Mrs. Maggie Mitchell of Toccoa.

Obituary of Jesse Walter Jackson Sr. as written on page 5 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 20 Jan 1956. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services for Jesse Walter Jackson were held Monday at 11 a. m. in the Baconton Methodist Church. The Rev. Fredrick Wilson, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Albany, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Richard Magie, pastor of the Baconton Methodist Church. Interment was in Mt. Enon Cemetery. Mr. Jackson, a prominent civic and religious citizen of Baconton, died suddenly Saturday morning at his residence. He had been in failing health. He was born March 17, 1894, in Baconton and had lived there all of his life. He was the son of the late Walter Tyler and Ida Bowles Jackson of Baconton. He graduated from Baconton High School and attended Emory University. He had extensive farming interests in Mitchell County. He was a member of the Baconton Methodist Church, member of the Board of Stewards and Trustee of the church. At the time of his death he was clerk of the City of Baconton, a position he held for the last 25 years and also was secretary and treasurer of the Baconton Methodist Church. Mr. Jackson had been tax receiver of Mitchell County for 12 years. He was also a former member of the Georgia Department of Revenue of Sales and Use Tax Unit retiring in 1952 due to ill health. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Irene Battle of Camilla; a daughter, Miss Hilda Irene Jackson of Baconton; five sisters, Mrs. Lloyd H. Lewis of Wilmington, Del., Mrs. D. C. Forehand of Albany, Mrs. Telfair Long and Mrs. T. H. Slade, both of Starke, Fla., and Mrs. J. E. Dean of Baconton. Active pallbearers were the following nephews; J. G. Pritchell, Jack Dean of Albany; Alva Crow, J. B. Butler Jr., Raymond Waters of Camilla, and Minor Dean of Jackson, Miss. Honorary escort was formed by the Board of Stewards and trustees of the Baconton Methodist Church.

Obituary of Charlie Cameron Cochran as written on page 8 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 20 Jan 1956. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services for Mrs. Charlie Cameron Cochran, wife of the late Ben Hill Cochran, were held Wednesday afternoon, January 18, at three o'clock at Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla. The Rev. N. H. Williams officiated and interment was in Sunset Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Hartly Palmer, Dan Palmer, Jr., Jimmy Howell, Jim Butler, Jr., A. B. Cochran, Sr. and E. J. Vann, III. Mrs. Cochran died late Tuesday at Mitchell County Hospital where she was carried three months ago following a stroke she suffered while visiting with a niece, Mrs. T. W. Joiner, in Pelham. She was about 72 years of age and had spent her entire life in Mitchell County. She was the daughter of the late Murdock Cameron and Louvenia Mulford Cameron. All of her close kin have passed on in recent years and nearest surviving relatives include one sister-in-law, Mrs. T. T. Cameron of Camilla; one brother-in-law, Mr. E. D. Maloy of Ft. Meade, Fla.; four step-grandchildren whom she reared almost from infancy in her home and loved as if they were her own children and a number of nieces and nephews. The four step-grandchildren, all children of the late Mrs. Rosebud Gafford who was the daughter by Mr. Cochran's first marriage, included Milton Gafford Jr., Roy Gafford and David Gafford, all of Atlanta, and Eleanor Maude who has married and now living in Pensacola, Fla. The nieces and nephews who survive, many of whom were here when the end came and attended the final rites, include the following; Mrs. W. W. Obituary of Ida Reba Keadle Mercer as written on page 6 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 24 Feb 1956. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. G. W. (Bill) Mercer, 40, prominent young Camilla matron who was active in church, social and educational circles, died at nine o'clock Friday morning, February 17, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta where she underwent an operation the day prior for a brain tumor. She had been losing her eyesight in recent months but otherwise apparently was enjoying good health and kept active in community life up until she went to Atlanta for examination. Prayers of the entire community were with her during her last several days as news of her illness became known. Many of her wide family connection were in Atlanta with her during the last long hours. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at three-thirty o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Camilla. The pastor, the Rev. Charles Duncan, and Rev. T. M. Underwood of Pelham officiated. Flowers evidencing love and sympathy for the bereaved family were banked in every available space around the pulpit and singing comforting hymns was a quartet of men in which the deceased's husband, Bill Mercer, usually sings. The quartet was composed of Tom Collins, Brackett Hardy, Bill Drennon, and J. Wayne Robertson. Following services at the church, attended by a large concourse of friends, interment took place in Oakview Cemetery. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Forming an honorary escort at the funeral services were the ladies of the Fidelis Class of the First Baptist Church. Active pallbearers were all nephews and included Otis Keadle, Edward Keadle, Fredrick Keadle and Luke Keadle, all of Thomasville, and Lee West, Lamar Shirah, Robert Sawyer and Gene Keadle. Daughter of the late W. W. and Clara Ada Moroney Keadle, pioneer citizens of Mitchell County. Mrs. Mercer was the former Ida Reba Keadle. She was reared in Hopeful community and moved to Camilla a number of years ago. Active in many phases of youth work, Mrs. Mercer was chosen last year as senior mother to accompany the MCHS graduates on their annual trip to New York. She was head counselor of the Girl's Auxiliary of the First Baptist Church, teacher in the Primary Department of the Sunday School, and served as band mother in both the local elementary and high school. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Camilla Garden Clubs, Inc., served as a leader in the Adult Baptist Training Union, held different offices in the Woman's Missionary Society, was active in the Camilla PTA. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church where she took active part along with her husband and other members of her family. She was also a member and active in the Cherokee Garden Club. Besides her husband survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Morris Wynn of Pelham, Jan Mercer and Sandra Mercer of Camilla; one son, Larry Mercer, student at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala.; six brothers, N. F. Keadle of Thomasville, the Rev. P. J. Keadle, L. Z. Keadle, Homer Keadle, Nathan Keadle and W. L. (Mutt) Keadle, all of Camilla, and one grandchildren.

Obituary of Emma Johnson Autry as written on page 6 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 23 Mar 1956. Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Emma Johnson Autry, oldest member of the Hinsonton Baptist Church where she worshipped for years and took active part, died at the age of eighty-eight on Saturday, March 17, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Funeral services were held Monday, March 19, at Hinsonton Baptist Church with Rev. L. Z. Widener, assisted by Rev. P. J. Keadle, officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Hill Cemetery in Colquitt county by the side of her husband, J. M. Autry, who preceded her in death just four years ago. Active pallbearers were John Collins Sr., John M. Roberts, J. T. Kelley, Rufus Davis, Otis Harrell and Hubert I. Palmer. Braswell Funeral Home of Pelham was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Autry was born in Sumter county on February 27, 1868. She had been a resident of Hinsonton community for the past fifty years. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Malissa Leverette of Hinsonton, Mrs. L. A. Edwards, also of Hinsonton, Mrs. J. E. Sapp of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Stetson Adams of Hinsonton; two sons, J. E. Autry and D. D. Autry, both of Hinsonton; three brothers, E. B. Johnson of McIntosh, Fla., and J. M. Johnson and E. L. Johnson, both of Hinsonton; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Young of Leslie, Mrs. Mary Herman, also of Leslie and Mrs. Fletcher Bautrice of Sulphur Springs, Fla.

(Eula) Ott, of Moultrie, died at Vereen Memorial Hospital in Moultrie Wednesday morning, March 21, after a short illness. Survivors include her brother, John R. Adams of Camilla; two sisters, Mrs. Mark J. Sanders of Camilla and Mrs. H. L. Adams of Pelham; her husband, A. G. Ott of Moutrie; two sons, W. K. Ott of Raliegh, North Carolina, and Judson Ott of Fitzgerald, Ga.; daughters, Mrs. Frank Harrell of Moultrie, Mrs. J. R. Garner of East Prarie, Missouri.
