A WOMAN SHOT TO DEATH
Higgston, Ga., April 22.--Quite a sensation was created here yesterday morning when Quincy Curry came to town and surrendered himself to officers, saying he shot a woman down on the Seaborn Air Line railway, about one mile from here, but that he did so in self-defense. Judge Elliot, with most of the male population, went out to investigate the matter, and found the woman, who is known here as Mrs. Buck, lying face downward, with a 32 caliber pistol ball through her heart, and a 56 caliber rifle ball, which entered her left breast, breaking the collar bone and coming out under the shoulder blade in the back.
Judge Elliot immediately empaneled a jury of inquest, which, after hearing all the evidence at hand, brought in a verdict of murder, as the evidence did not agree with the claim of self-defense as made by Curry. He has been committed to jail to await trial at the next term of Superior Court at Mount Vernon.
No one knows much about the woman, Mrs. Buck, But she is suppose to have come from Augusta with her husband some four or five months ago. About 3 months ago her husband was accidentally killed at a saw mill at this place. Since that time she has only been a visitor to Higgston.
