Attempted Suicide.  The horrible news of an almost successful attempt at suicide reached the town last Saturday morning, and from the prominence of the unfortunate man, Mr. Marion Roberts, near Raccoon creek, it was soon noised throughout the whole country.  The causes that led to the attempt are indefinitely known, though it is believed to have been melancholy.  During a fit of mental aberration Mr. Roberts drew a knife across his throat, separating the trachea and swallow, but missing the jugular veins, and after the gash was made he then climbed to the top of a tree and leaped or fell out, striking a fence in his fall, where he lay until found.  Mr. Roberts lost a lovely daughter several months ago, and recently a son, which seems to be the most reasonable hypothesis for his strange conduct.  According to the news that has been in today, (Tuesday) his condition is pronounced critical in the extreme.
