Mrs. Ethel Adams, age 35, of Jacksonville, died at the Anniston Memorial Hospital Sunday night at 10 o'clock. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Daily Street Baptist Church of Piedmont. Interment will be in the Piedmont Cemetery with Usrey in charge. Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband, George Adams; five sons, Marlon, of the U. W. Navy, Clarence, Billy, Joe Tom and Van; two daughters, Martha Ann and Betty Jean, all of Jacksonville; two brothers, Joe B. Stephenson of the U. S. Army and Howard Stephenson of Piedmont, and four sisters, Mrs. Starling Redding, Mrs. G. W. Williams and Mrs. Fred Irvin, all of Cedartown, Ga. and Mrs. Arnold Herbert of Lakewood, Fla. Andrew J. Bowen dies Tuesday at Hutto Hill Funeral Services are held today at Lime Branch Andrew Jackson Bowen, 86, died at his home on Hutto Hill Tuesday night after an illness of two weeks. Funeral services were held at Lime Branch at 2 o'clock, Thursday, conducted by Rev. R. C. Knight and Rev Murl Hudson. Pallbearers were Jack Bowen, Lewis Bowen, Alvie Bowen, Harris Hitchcock, Stonewall Hitchcock, and Leo Mobley. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery with Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home in charge. Mr Bowen was born March 30, 1859 in Carroll County. He was preceeded in death by his wife on April 4, 1933. Surviving are two sons, Andrew and James, of Cedartown; three daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Hitchcock, Mrs. Fannie Hulsey and Mrs. Della Stephens, of Cedartown; three brothers, Will and Dave, of Cedartown, and George Bowen, of Texas.


Billy Bradford, Last rites were conducted yesterday afternoon in the Damascus Baptist Church for Billy Bradford 12 year old son of T. T. Bradford, of Silver Creek, Route 1, who died of a shotgun wound Tuesday afternoon at his home. Officiating were the Rev. J. C. Rogers and the Rev. Jess McCain. Burial was in the family lot in Damascus Cemetery. Billy was born on December 6, 1933, and was a student at Harmony School. His mother preceded him in death on December 26, 1938.(Rome News Tribune, October 23, 1946)


Mary Marvine Garrett, 11 year old daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W. L. Garrett of 24 Pennington Avenue, died in an Atlanta hospital at 9:25 o&rsquoclock last night following an illness of six weeks. The child was a student in the South Rome School. In addition to her parents, she is survived by four brothers, Carl R., W. L., Jr. and Michael Lee Garrett of Rome, Kenneth M. Garrett, U. S. Navy and her grandmother, Mrs. Emma Garrett, of Rome, Route 2. Funeral services will be held at 2 o&rsquoclock Friday afternoon in Providence Baptist Church, Forney, Ala. The Rev. Ed Dempsey will officiate, and burial will be in Providence Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the residence until time for services, and pallbearers are requested to meet there at 12:45. Pallbearers include Roland Terrace, Manuel Garrett, Thomas Graham and Otis Ingram. (Rome News Tribune, Thursday, November 2, 1944)


Fletcher Myers, died at the home of his son, Harvey Myers, on Route 1, Lindale, at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. He suffered a stroke of paralysis on July 21, from which he never recovered. Born in Hall County near Gainesville, Mr. Myers moved to Rome 20 years ago. He made his home in Rome until going to visit his son five weeks age. He was married to Miss Louola Roberts 44 years ago, who preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Rollins, of Cave Spring, Route 2; two sons, Harvey Myers, Lindale Route 1, Lee Myers, of Rome Route 4, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Ed Dempsey. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Hurbert Whitlock, Clarence Whitlock, George Gillam, Amos Gillam, Rawl Ashley and Bud Ashley will serve as pallbearers. The remains will be carried to the home of his son, Lee Myers, on the Callier Springs Road, late this afternoon, to rest there until time for services. Mrs. Lena Victoria Smith, 83, of 522 East Ave., passed away late Tuesday, (Feb. 14, 1946) after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held in the Cedartown Second Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. Buddy York, the Rev. Ivey Cash, and the Rev. Clifford Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the New Harmony Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Cedartown Second Baptist church. She had lived in Polk County for the past 60 years, and was preceded in death by her husband, George Melton Smith 16 years ago. Survivors include one son, Webb Smith of Cedartown; five daughters, Mrs. Ralph Stephens of Cedartown, Mrs. Bob Whitehead of Cedartown, Mrs., Dolly Wood of Cedartown, Mrs. Jesse Couzzourt of Milledgeville, and Mrs. Alex Stephenson of Cedartown; three sisters, Mrs. Adeline Brown of Cedartown, Mrs. Will Price of Tecumseh, Ala., and Mrs. Lewis Hudgins of Rome; 27 grandchildren, 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Cecil Blair, George Massey, Jr., John Chendler, Vernon Stephens, J.C. Chambers, Ellis Yarbrough, and James H. Yarbrough. The Southside Trio and the Second Baptist W.M.U. ladies will furnish the music. The Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The body will lie in state at the home of Alex Stephens, 128 Adams St. Until the funeral hour.
