Mr. A. J. Ballard, Services for A. J. Ballard, 62, of Mableton, GA., will be
Saturday at 1 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Chapel in Newnan, GA., with the Rev.
Robert Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
Mr. Ballard died Wednesday in Cobb General Hospital in Georgia after a long
illness. Survivors include two daughters, a son, two sisters and several
grandchildren, some of whom live in Calhoun County. (Anniston Star, Page 5B,

Mrs. Lucille McGhee Garrett, Services for Mrs. Lucille McGhee Garrett, 66,
of Talladega, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peace Missionary Baptist Church
with Rev. C. M. Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist
Church Cemetery with Sims Funeral Service. The body will be at the church an
hour before services. The procession will leave for 47 Westgate Apartments
at 10:40 a.m. Mrs. Garrett died Monday at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Mary B. Calhoun of Chicago, Mrs.
Rosie Cook and Mrs. Shirley Wilson, both of Talladega and Mrs. Lisa Garrett
of Birmingham; five sons, Johnny F. McGhee of Detroit, Willie C. Garrett and
Melvin Garrett, all of Talladega; two sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Butler and
Mrs. Mary Thomas, both of Anniston; four brothers, Sam McClurkin and Virgil
McClurkin, both of Anniston, John McClurkin of Talladega and Albert
McClurkin of Chicago; 27 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the
members of the maintenance department of the Talladega Housing Authority.
Mrs. Garrett was a Talladega County native and a member of Peace Baptist

Mr. Thomas C. Jones, Services for Thomas C. Jones, 64, of Anniston, will be
Saturday at 1 p.m. at Smith and Gaston Funeral Home Northside chapel in
Birmingham with the Rev. William Smith and the Rev. Pequer English
officiating. Burial will be in Zion Memorial Gardens in Birmingham. Mr.
Jones died Friday at Southgate Nursing Home in Birmingham. Survivors include
his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Jones; eight daughters, six sons; three sisters, Mrs.
Connie Warren of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Mrs. Roberta Jackson of
Jacksonville and Mrs. Ouida Hill of Birmingham; four brothers, Rennie Jones
of Cleveland, Worthy Jones of Luverne, Ralph Jones of Jacksonville and Seba

Mrs. Eura Webb Kuntz, age 24, of Gadsden died yesterday afternoon at 1:35 o’
clock in the Holy Name of Jesus Hospital in Gadsden from pneumonia. A former
employee of Ruth’s Beauty Shop, Mrs. Kuntz was well known in Anniston.
Funeral services will be held when contact is made with her husband Lt.
Charles Kuntz who is overseas. Cox of Gadsden will be in charge. Mrs. Kuntz
is survived by her husband, parents and one brother, now serving overseas.

Mrs. Florence Kathleen Lorren, 47, of Piedmont, Rt. 2 will be Saturday at 3
p.m. at Camp Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer Wysner officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Dryden Funeral Home of Heflin
in charge. The body will be at the funeral home until service time. Mrs.
Lorren died Thursday in Cleburne Hospital after a long illness. Survivors
include her husband, Billy Lorren of Piedmont; two daughters, Miss Denise
Lorren and Miss Nancy Lorren both of Piedmont; three sons, Shannon Lorren of
Bremen, GA., and Michael Lorren and Kevin Lorren both of Piedmont; a sister,
Mrs. Dorothy Kroon of New Orleans, La.; and a brother Chester Beckman of
Hubert, N. C. Mrs. Lorren was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne
County, Ala. and a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church. (Anniston Star, Page

Mrs. Maudie Geneva Morton, 48 of Ohatchee, Rt. 3, will be Saturday at 3 p.m.
at Mt. View Baptist Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Tommy Reeves and the
Rev. S. D. McComb officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Church
Cemetery at Peek’s Hill with K. L. Brown Funeral Home in charge. The body
will be at the residence until service time. Mrs. Morton died Thursday in
University Hospital in Birmingham after a long illness. Survivors include
two daughters, Mrs. Sharon Jones and Miss Karen Morton, both of Ohatchee;
three stepchildren; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hodge of Ohatchee;
four sisters, Mrs. Rachael Whitehead and Mrs. Ruth Simpson, both of
Ohatchee, Mrs. Ethel Cameron of Webster’s Chapel and Mrs. Esther Hindman of
Gadsden; four brothers, Houston Hodge of Webster’s Chapel, Roe Hodge of
Rome, GA., Arthur Hodge of Fort Valley, Ga. And Jud Hodge of Anniston; two
grandsons and five step grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Fred Johnson Jack
Cameron, Johnny Hodge, Bill Jones, Jimmy Meadows and Norman Hindman. Mrs.
Morton was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County, Ala. She was a
