Herndon Cemetery

Variant Name: Annie Mary Church Cemetery
The sign beside the Highway calls this cemetery the Annie Mary Church Cemetery, but the sign right at the cemetery calls it Herndon Cemetery. Located 5-1/2 miles south of the Courthouse in Monroe, Walton County, Georgia, on the west side of the highway. Surveyed by Dennis & Sandra Cameron on Oct. 27, 2000.
The cemetery is approx. 350 ft. from North to south and 150 feet from east to west, with about one third of it being in the brush and trees, and the rest in grass.
There are 75 or more graves out in the woods that aren’t marked, but are sunken, and others that have been marked with concrete blocks or field stones that have no names or dates. In the grassy, mostly cleared section, there is 16 marked with concrete (pumice) blocks and several more that can be seen because they have sunk, but have no markers. There are several in the woods and in the grass that were marked with regular grave stones that have shelled off and deteriorated due to weather, that has made them illegible.

James Malcom died Feb,23 1829, There are no dates on the tombs,just a ''M'' to mark the graves.
This is one of the oldest cemeterys in Walton County.I was told by a cousin that they were buried there.Back in the 50s his
Greatgrandmother told him they were buried there,and she was told by her greatgrandmother (Susannah Allen
Malcom ) when she was a little girl that they were buried in the Annie Mary Cemetery in Rock tombs Marked with a ''M''.
I am pretty sure this is It.There is another grave close by with a
rock tomb dated 1828.The date Sally Gannaway died is unnown she is beleived to have died before James.
